Can someone school me on Bacchus guitars?

"up yours, baby."
i'm not intentionally being lazy, honest - i've done some online searches and find the information to be fairly limited. as you might imagine, the forum info i've seen generally degrades quickly into mudslinging between gibson fan boys and the anti-gibson zealots.

I know they offer a few different ranges of instruments that top out at truly one-off custom made by hand down to low-end budget level. depending on the range, the materials and components seem to vary widely, and it appears some of them include veneer tops versus "slab" tops (for example).

I've been curious about trying one out for myself. I'd like to find one that is more of a Gibson equivalent rather than an Epiphone equivalent (if that makes sense).

Does anyone here have any direct experience or factually accurate knowledge about Bacchus?

I've never played one, or even seen one in real life, but I know they have 4 main product ranges. The highest end is the Handmade series which are made in Japan in the Asaka factory. These are, as he name suggests, handmade guitars from the best materials. I would guess they are sort of like a Gibson custom shop model, but that is just a guess. The second product range is a lower cost Japanese production series called the Craft series. These seem to be high end, but the wood isn't hand picked and some of the work is CNC and such. I guess it would be similar to a regular Gibson production line guitar. The third series is the Universe series, which are Chinese made and are likely Epiphone like in terms of materials and manufacture. The last is the Global series that is made in the Philippines and probably is like the lower end Epi line up. I think the Global series is mostly Fendery clones.

Again, I never played one, so my placing of these relative to Gibson and Epiphone are just guesses based on where they are made and what materials go into them. I would think you would want to stick to the Handmade or Craft series guitars, as these are the ones people seem to talk about favorably online.

Tiltsta has it pretty much, except the Universe series is lower than the Global series, and the Global series are both Fender and Gibson clones. From what I understand they sent Japanese luthiers to train and oversee the Filipino workers. The quality is supposed to be top notch. I think the Universe series are contracted to a Chinese factory and are considered entry level.

They have a factory tour on youtube.

Some stuff from the global series (which is the line I'm most interested in at the moment)

It seems they have the word classic on their lp types in the craft series. Maybe other series as well, didn't look, but I did see it there.

That is a seriously hot guitar btw. Edit: Global series lp has "Live Road" written on the headstock.

Oh, and shit just got real for me here too.

Hello all,

I located this thread via an online search for some information concerning a particular Bacchus example I recently purchased.
I see this is an older thread but thought I would chime in, if folks don't mind.
I will try and touch on some points from earlier posts.

I have owned several Bacchus examples over the past ~12 years, most have been from the Bacchus Vintage Series years.
I have owned about 40 Bacchus examples & I still have about 10, maybe 12 examples left.
The Bacchus Vintage Series guitars were being produced from about 1995 to 2005.
The Bacchus Classic Series guitars were produced from about 2009 to 2013.
Many Bacchus examples from both the Vintage Series & the Classic Series eras were basically replicas of Fender & Gibson products.

Currently Bacchus is producing non-replica guitars as far as I am aware.
Deviser Corporation is the parent company to Bacchus.
Deviser has maintained other brands such as Headway, Riverhead, Seventy Seven, STR, Momose, among others.

My knowledge is mostly limited to the Bacchus brand of Deviser products.
If you have specific questions, I may know an answer but there is a lot I don't know.

Cheers,
MIJ fan
