Best cheap delay?

Is it the Digitech one? Or should I spend a bit more and get a Boss?

I've shied away from effects for years - I'm mainly a classic rock/blues player and normally only use a wah, but I've been playing with an original indie/folk/rock band recently and I've been thinking about experimenting with a bit of delay.

If I like it, I'll probably go all-out and buy a silly expensive one but for the time being I'd like a cheap one to mess around with - has to be good enough to gig at volume though.

There's plenty of Digitechs on eBay UK at the moment so could snap one up fairly easily.

I have a Joyo Analog Delay I picked up on ebay for about 40 shipped! Works and sounds great to me. Nothing wrong with the Digitech one either. If you can get one for cheap go for it. These days you really don't need to spend a lot of money to get decent sounding effects and there seems to be lots of great deals out there from people ditching their stuff for boutique.

My kid uses a Memory Toy. Basic analog delay with no frills and no extra noise. $40.

+1 These are a great low expense unit. I am not a big stomp box guy, but have tried this pedal out and drove it around the block a bunch of times....great box!

The Joyos are really cheap too and I've heard elsewhere that they're meant to be ok - about £30 shipped. Would the analogue be the one to go for over the digital? I'm probably looking for more of an echo effect rather than slap-back.

My drummer has a Boss loopstation lying around that he could lend me - do these have a delay setting?

I almost know absolutely nothing about FX!

Depending on what you are looking for I really liked the Carbon Copy for a useful but simple analog delay.

I have a joyo analog and it is decent. If you are looking tiger a delay to kind of test out delay, it wouldn't be a bad choice.

I know there's no love for Behringer, however I've found that their Vintage Time Machine is a pretty good analog delay on the cheap. It can be run in stereo and seems pretty sturdy.
That being said, for tone and versatility I've found the TC Electronics Flashback delay is my current favorite. Especially now that they have released the tone print software so you can design your own delays. [h=1][/h]

I did the mod on the Dano FAB Echo to turn it into a delay.

I managed to cram a pot into the side with just a bit of board shaving.

$25 plus a buck or so for the pot, and about a half hour of time.

I used to use the Digital Labs Delay. I got it used from GC for $25. I thought it was great. I brought it to Pragestock one year. People seemed to like it
