Beatin’ Ricko With Tommy Emmanuel

Don’t tell @Peen Simmons that Rick has done another interview. It might upset him.

Tommy plays quite a bit. He touches on how his age has affected his playing. And, he explains how Taylor Swift gave him some inspiration.

Rick Beato is Mr. Beast for middle-aged guitar dorks. Discuss.
I took my son to see Tommy Emmanuel play live with Mike Dawes as the opening act a few years ago. He was 19 at the time. He loved it. He bought CD’s of both of their music.

You don’t have to fold your arms and scoff at everything the older generation puts out. My son still listens to the music of the younger generation. He still goes to shows by younger bands and artists.

I’m folding my arms and scoffing at a seemingly omnipresent YouTuber whose content has gotten less compelling and more “feed the algorithm” over the last few years. Hate the game, not the player…yadda yadda. Sorry I was mildly dismissive of your internet boyfriend.

There is tons of YT content that’s annoying. I click on the stuff I like and ignore the stuff I don’t.

There is no reason for you to allow my boyfriend, Rick, to live inside your head rent free. Your behavior shows signs of Tall Poppy Syndrome.

But yet I live inside your head so much so that you summoned me to this thread? I’m not going to make out with you. You’re not Deebo.

Don’t get the love. Never have, over the past 25 years or so, going back to his Atkins-approved/CGP days. Six-string elevator music.

There's no tasting on account...no wait. All accounts must be settled before tasting...nope, that's not it. Never mind....

You, Sir, are entitled to your opinion, no matter how ill-informed and ignorant it may be.

Do you think that this is a mature response?

For me, too much of what Mr Emmanuel does in performance comes across as schtick.

Yeah, he can play, but it holds no interest for me. YMMV

But he seems like a nice enough guy.

I've meet him a few times, he is a very nice man.

I think the performance schtick is likely something he's found works well for the audience he's playing for. I think that's true for a lot of entertainment acts. Certainly friends of mine that are not musicians loved his concerts.
