Any zippo buffs here?

Something doesn't seem right.

The zippos look much more thinner/streamlined than I remember.

The one I got is 41 replica so it's plenty chunky. I've double checked with the stamps and stuff and it all seems legit.

I was rushing out before my gig earlier, I'm not sure if it's a stray bit of paper or something but there's no safety engraving (really no clue where I thought this!) but it is only engraved on one side. The guy has already responded asking wether I want to send it back or refunded for the non engraving so it's all good :thu:

I have one of these Joe Carducci from Gretsch gave me.

I use them. I enjoy the mechanical sound and metallic feel. They're also somewhat collectible.

I haven’t had a zippo in quite a long time now but the ones I had were chunkier too.
But, I do seem to remember seeing a few different styles including a slimmer design like the one jbj posted. And I remember one that was maybe 1/2 to 3/4 size?

My zippo doesnt have the safety engraved on the one side.
I do have my initials engraved on the one side.

I have several, the oldest being from the sixties. Dad bought it. It's never been used. I used to remember something about the notches or marks on the bottom, but can't recall what to look for.

Have a few but haven’t used em in the decade or so since I stopped smoking. I don’t know when they started making them cheaper but the ones that belonged to my dad and grandfather are more sturdy then the newer ones I bought in the 90s

There’s always that fine line between enough fluid and too much fluid that will leak out when the lighter is upside down then catch on fire for a second when you light it. :)

They do have a satisfying old school mechanical aspect to them

I don't remember exactly, but a certain amount of notches made the lighter more sought after.

I wish I had the one I bought on the USS Iwo Jima.
I bought it when we were returning from Beirut.

Here's the chart, and it shows I'm mistaken about the one in the pic above. It has 2 notches on either side, that's 1970.

How many things are there that would break on a zippo? Aside from the hinge wearing out.

I think the hinge is the thing that wears out the fastest, but you've got to abuse one to get that far. And I do believe Zippo still repairs them free of charge.
