Americans are kinda real fucked up

The anonymity of the interwebz bids many to post and act in a way that they would (in the vast majority of instances) never do in person. For some reason it also seems to shorten people temper or thin out their skin. And often over incredibly trivial things. I see stuff daily on FB or other social media sights that I find offensive. Life is offensive. I move on.

They (whoever "they are) have often referred to teh internetz as "teh information superHIGHWAY).....that amkes sense. Just as on all our roads in 'mericuh we have daily episodes of "Road Rage". We se it in the papers and we witness it in the street sometimes.

So it makes sense that on the information superHIGHWAY that we should also expect to see "road rage"....it's no different. people lose or don't feel they have control in their daily lives but when they get in their Prius after work it's "GO TIME" They now feel they are in control of their lives...they are steering the good ship lollipop and God help who ever gets in the way of that...there will be hell to pay !!!!!11! ...

Soooooo.......Just like on that road they get on the internetz road on their Linux or their Apple or their "souped up pc" or their Anroid whatever and "God help who dares get in their way of their perceived CONTROL TIME"...no boss, no wifey or hubby or bank or anybody to tell them otherwise...ti's their time and they be in control....so they wish.

According to David Letterman's top-ten list, France installed speed bumps on their highways after the German reunification, to help slow down the panzers. Based on that, Poland might be an easier mark :embarrassed:

You mess with Poland you mess with us Brits cop0

France you're welcome to :embarrassed:

Welcome back, Weed Deebo!

I'm just on the interwebz for the memes. Hey, some are actually thought provoking!

Same thing with Twitter.

There are probably far fewer trolls out there than it can seem. Remember, most people don’t ever use reddit, or forums, or twitter, or comment on YouTube. I’m not saying America isn’t full of angry white dudes, but even most of them aren’t reddit trolls.

And while I'm sure Reddit (and a Bosox sub especially) skews white male 'Murican, it is site with a global user base. I'm sure there are twats from other countries out there mucking things up too.

I took an honors class in my undergrad about social movements and it was really fascinating. One thing that the professor said to me that has always stuck was "you can always tell when a movement is reaching its end, because people start acting really absurd. Also, men dress like women." The last part doesn't really apply here (we were mainly looking at the 60's, 70s, and 80s, where fashion did become androgynous towards the end of each decade. However, the first definitely applies. As a decade, trend, fashion, way of thinking, whatever, becomes obsolete and is being replaced, it gets really exaggerated and ridiculous. The "thread of anti-intellectualism" that has been in America for a long time is and has for a while been at odds with the information revolution in our world, roughly from the birth of the Internet onwards. As such, people are acting more and more ridiculous in their ignorance and their arrogance of it, but that's not because things are getting worse, but rather, because we're at a turning point where things are actually getting better and the last people holding onto the past do so very loudly. I would guess that in the next 10-20 years or so, this attitude in America will subside and be replaced with the appreciation for knowledge and expertise that the rest of the civilized world shares.

The blend of ignorance and anger was certainly not circumstantial ... and it was just so ...

I dunno. I used to remember when people were ashamed to be obviously stupid. Now they're proud.

When I first read this in the morning, I thought it said "the blend of ignorance and anger with certainty" and that is addressed in the Asimov quote. These people are certain that they are right, speaking to their ignorance, their unwavering ability to reject anything and everything that might undermine their core beliefs. In addition to not being particularly intelligent, they are afraid of new and different information, concepts, realities, etc. They live in the worst "bubble" and are the ultimate "snowflakes". And they are the only people that can't/won't see that.

Last night I was talking with my wife and told her that when I meet someone new, if I hear them express uncertainty, I immediately like them much more.

What was weird was just the level of rage. When did we get so angry? I thought the 70's were pretty messy, but I don't remember things being this ugly.

The entirety of human history is anger...rage, hate, extremism are nothing new...the difference between then and now is that NOW it's happening in real time and is no longer an historical abstraction...

I read this three times and I'm still not sure who it is about. In all honesty, it could be about any of the vocal "movements" we are seeing, either political party, a college football fan, religious extremists, Trump supporters, Trump haters, and on and on. And not limited to the United States. And it' not necessarily a new thing. Maybe some new group names but the idea is the same. The internet has simply given more of these vocal minorities a voice and a place to pound their collective chests and a place for the rest of us to watch it happen. And I get the feeling anti-intellectual is just a way to call someone stupid for not believing what you believe.

Thanks, Al Gore.

Not what I was referring to, Tig...I'm sure if you went back in time the boys at the tavern hoisting their tankard of mead after a long day of threshing would be saying the same things we are now...

Yep, I know. I felt the need to add the anonymous rapid communication factor in, and that means Gore!
