A slight pedalboard rebuild is happening this week.

I've really been struggling with my sounds on the cover gig for the last several months and you might have noticed different overdrive pedals rotating in an out for a while. I gave up and ordered the RYRA 808 pedal to take care of my bluesy/overdrive issues and after a little GC mayhem yesterday discovered that the Friedman Dirty Shirly distortion is probably my best bet for the modern sounds. Ordered one of those last night too. They should both be here by Wednesday. I pulled the expression pedal that I barely use off of the board, put the Strymon tap button I've had lying around in for tap tempos on the Timeline and for the moment put the Reverb on after everything. We have out All Star Trio 20th anniversary show this Friday and I'd like to have this where it makes me happy before then. We should have a ton of guests coming and most of the guys who have also shared the guitar chair in the band as well. I'd like to not be unhappy with how I sound for once.

I'll post more towards the end of the week.

Just got to drop it in the pedalboard and play a bit during my last lesson of the night but I dig it so far.

The Dirty Shirley might be here today (Tuesday). This will give me plenty of time to tweak and reorganize my sounds.

The Dirty Shirley showed up tonight. I only had a few minutes with it but it sounds pretty good too. I'm hoping to have a little reprogramming time tomorrow. Maybe a little video will be forthcoming if I can clean up my studio a bit.

This is from Friday. Both pedals sound great. The Dirty Shirley is great for my "metal" sounds, especially with the Les Paul. I had to back the mid control down a bit because it was almost like it was pushing a microphonic tube or making some strange feedback thing happen but it went away once I cranked the mids back a little. The RYRA 808 just does a good TS thing. That will get more of a workout this week when I play with "Catfish Junction" doing more oldies and blues tunes Friday night.

So after a handful of shows with this setup, I've come to the realization that I don't need a Tube Screamer-type pedal for this gig and just using the Spark mini into the clean channel gives me a pretty good bluesy and lite-overdrive sound. I'll leave the RYRA 8o8 on for the time being but eventually when I have the budget I'll probably get either an H9 or some sort of EHX synth pedal to go in that spot. I'll also look into a full size wah just to have on the floor next to the board, too.
