Yeah, I read that too. You can see it in the article I linked below. I also read another interview where he said he kept that middle pickup (A dimarzio super distortion) really close to the strings so when he selected that position it gave instant feedback. It was more of an effect than something he actually played.

While I love LP's, I don't care for the middle pickup in an LP.
