Bourgeois Bryan Sutton Limited Edition 2014, Brazilian Rosewood & Adirondack Spruce

Head to toe, this is a dreadnought made for the bluegrass picker who is after that elusive played-in, pre-war D-28 sound, and is definitely worthy of the Bryan Sutton signature name. Master-grade Brazilian rosewood matched with Aged Tone Adirondack spruce, with finishing touches like the ultra-thin aged tone finish, abalone rosette, ivoroid binding, and antique walrus ivory pins. This 2014 model is a limited edition, numbered #1 of 30. It has a repaired X-brace and shows some light finish delamination on its back and sides. Includes its original hard case.

FLAMENCOLOGY THOUGHTS:

We had a grotesque Bourgeois last week with monstrous inlays. This one, sadly, has inlays too. But the inlays aren’t grotesque, just simply unsexy. At any rate, this is actually a very good price and I’d be shocked if you couldn’t make a profit on it in a year or two. It also apparently sounds pretty great.

Good looking and sounding guitar that I'd be happy to receive as a gift. Spending that sort of money on one is never going to happen for me though bar a lottery win.

I am not a dread fan, but would buy the right one.

Amazing silking on that top. And the sound is not as dry as I would have thought from a bluegrass machine. Obviously not in my price range, but that is one sweet guitar. The inlay is subtle enough to be overlooked given the quality of the instrument.

I guess if I was a snob about tone woods I might care. Otherwise it’s just one of a million basic dreadnoughts.

I've had the opportunity to spend a hot minute with a couple different Bourgeois...they are incredible...

As with so much other high-end stuff I can appreciate the craftmanship, but I'd prefer someone else buying it and playing it.

That is a nice looking guitar. Certainly better inlays than the earlier example. I'd give it a whirl, though I am not the Dreadnaught guy I used to be. I just need something larger than parlor size.
