535,000 sqft Bass Pro Shop opens in former Memphis sporting arena / pyramid.

BS555

Kick Henry Jackassowski
It has restaurants, museums, shooting ranges, a hotel, a bowling alley, and an observation deck / restaurant / bar at the top of the pyramid.

While I personally think the stores are overpriced as shit on literally every single item, they are fun to browse. Even if you're not into outdoorsy stuff this is kinda cool to see.

Good Lord.

The "regular" Bass Pro I have been in is pretty huge and amazing...nothing like that though.

Took them long enough. Pretty cool, though. I will have to check it out some time. It's like Disneyland for bubbas.

Yeah, the Katy Mills store is impressive, but this one puts it to shame.

Still, I'd rather go to the mom and pop shop in Seabrook or an Academy and save some money.

These brick and mortar sporting goods stores are for suckers to buy anything at, depending on sales perhaps, or if you just have to have it that moment. Dick's (not as bad on some things,) Gander Mountain is HORRIBLE, Bass Pro is horrible, I've never been to a Cabela's B&M.

They're a good place to go look at something, then find it 15, 20, 30 percent cheaper online. You have to be a complete rube to buy anything at Gander, or not internet savvy, or something. They sell used guns at higher than new list prices, ammo is outrageous, camping stuff is outrageous, etc.

Cabelas is pretty similar to the others price wise. Like all these stores sometimes you'll find a good deal if something is on sale or in the clearance section. Otherwise forget about it.

Actually REI is reasonable on a lot of products, especially their own brand goods which are usually pretty great for the money.

I dig the concept but it’s there’s something unsettling about a Bass Pro Shops amusement park inside a black postmodern pyramid. It’s as if one of of the reservations from Transmetropolitan was established in the Blade Runner universe to keep redneck stereotypes alive.

There is a Cabela's brick &mortar in Mitchell SD, home of the Corn Palace.

As anyone who happens to be friends with me on facebook would know, I am addicted to kayak fishing. I love Bass Pro for the browsing and sheer volume of stuff. I dont really buy there unless I catch a sale that on something I really want though. I am not totally against buying from a big box but I try to support local when I can. I have a couple of local businesses and one in TN that I deal with on pretty much everyhthing.

My inner Bubba would really love to see this place.

The important question is: Where is the nearest 'real' Memphis BBQ joint to that pyramid?

:embarrassed:

Most things yes but not all. I just bought a case of clay pigeons at BPS for around $10. Good luck getting them shipped for that price
