2014 Dodge Grand Caravan review.

Coralkong

Alien
My latest rental.

I am in Atlanta, and this is what Budget RentAShitbox had available........so I am going to write a review.

The interior is ridiculous. Black leather with red stitching. Looks like Dodge is trying to make it look like a race-car. But it isn't, because, well....duh....it's a fucking mini-van.
Other than that, it is quite comfortable. The shifter on the dash took a little getting used to, and I'm not sure it is a good idea or not, but the interior appointments are quite nice, very comfortable to drive and be in.
Dodge definately did a good job for a long-range highway road-tripper.
There is a big blind spot behind the driver's chair (if you were changing lanes, you'd have to use the mirror), but other than it looks ridiculous on the inside, it is a pretty nice car.

Engine: Lots of power, very responsive. Nice car as far as that part goes...........great pickup....changing lanes is a breeze (see blind spot comment above). Good engine.

Transmission: This is the downfall of this car. The trans sucks. Now I know it is a rental, and people have probably beat the shit out of it before I had it, but it "clunks" shifting from R to D. It shifts at odd points. For example, it shifts at 55 mph. So riding in traffic on the highway is a bit annoying.

Exterior: A fire engine red mini-van? Come on, Dodge, give me a break.......Nice, though, I guess, for a mini-van.

Overall:

While I am not in the market for a mini-van, I can see where people would like it. Especially for long-range trips. Other than the clunky transmission, it is a pretty nice vehicle, very well appointed. The interior is ridiculous looking, though, almost embarassing.

Overall Grade: C+
While an improvement over old mini-vans, I don't want a fucking "race" minivan, I want a people carrier. I would think Dodge could do better, or maybe people really are NASCAR idiots who will buy the black leather interior with red stitching and a fancy touch screen radio because they think it is cool. I have no idea. Other than that, though, it does have power, rides stable, no real issues other than it is "fire engine red" with big chrome wheels on it.

Maybe the dealership couldn't sell the mini-race-van so they dumped it to the rental fleet

Wife's CRV has the shifter up on the dash. Took a little bit of getting used to, but overall not a bad design choice. It's certainly out of the way and not likely to get accidentally bumped.
