Hot or Not? 1996 Martin SPD-16TR - Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Another acoustic, since I am on the subject. Here is a much, much less expensive one than the Henderson I posted a bit ago.

The Special Edition 16s were made by Martin Guitars beginning in 1996 with production mostly ending by 2000-2001. This model features extra features such as an abalone pearl rosette, a Style 45 multi-colored back inlay strip, and gold hardware. These are great Martins that won't break the bank. This SPD-TR sports an Indian Rosewood body and Spruce top.

Player Reviews:
"The SPD-16 series offers a lot of guitar for the money. Solid woods, abalone markers and rosette and gold hardward were all standard. Great tone is standard also. This is a true Martin guitar with the punch and wonderful midrange Martin fans will enjoy." - Paul Heumiller

"This is a great dreadnought for the money. This Special Edition Martin has that vintage look and appears to be a cross between a D-18 and D-28. Pretty darn nice." - Al Petteway

This one sold for about a grand.

(CONFESSION: this is my personal guitar that I bought from these guys in 2009. I found this ad for it still up on the site and couldn't help posting it. I don't care what you guys think. I think it is hot!)

Thanks guys. Sorry for the self serving post of my own guitar, but when I found its original ad (from fall, 2009), I had to post it. Especially with a little head buzz after being out for some sushi and a couple beers.

I think it is pretty darned nice, and if you listen to the vids, it is certainly exactly like that much more expensive Henderson, or a higher end HD-28 or HD-45, but I am impressed how well it compares, at least to my ears, and from what you can tell from recordings. the other thing is that having owned it now for a few years, it has not disappointed and cures my GAS for those much more expensive rosewood and spruce guitars. I think the Special Edition 16's had a little extra thrown into them as the D-16RGTs (rosewood, gloss-top) I tried did not seem as nice. Also, I love the snowflake inlays, the rosette and D45 style rear stripe and tortoise binding.

I felt very fortunate to land it in my stable for $1,050 out the door. (plus shipping I think).
