This is an all original 1960 Gibson Korina Explorer. There are only two other known 1960 Gibson Korina Explorers and one 1960 Gibson Korina Flying V that are currently accounted for. For such a rare and sought-after piece, we have invested an extensive amount of time into tracking down this guitar's history, and have enlisted several known dealers and collectors to help authenticate this guitar. Attached you will find the letters of authenticity from Rick Gould (Rock photographer/Guitar collector), Detlef Alder of Guitar Point (Maintal, Germany), Max Baranet (Luthier/Korina crafstman), Clive Brown of Dwight Guitars (Luthier), George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars and Phil Jones (formerly of Gibson), Frank Lucido of California Guitars, John Nelson of Vintage Gear America (formerly of Eddie Money & John Lee Hooker). You will also find two ads from Vintage Guitar Magazine issues from 1995 in which the guitar was listed for sale.

A provenance package that includes hard copies of the attached letters, hi-resolution pictures of the guitar's cavity, documentation as to the guitar's history/timeline and the guitar' aside-by-side measurements to another known Explorer can also be provided by request. We are happy to answer your questions and inquiries.

Love the guitar.

That HAS to be a typo.

Wow. That is some crazy pricing.

They've been trying to sell this one for about a year or so afaik....this past summer on ebay for $750,00. There has been speculation that it's a replica/fake. If were to be legit, it could fetch a pretty big dollar.

Here's some links for entertainment

I bet Gruhn will never see that guitar... Not because he doesn't want to but because the seller doesn't want him to.

I've always thought Explorers looked really cool, but the Gibson ones are always just stupidly expensive.

That's true. I should have specified I meant the korina ones.
Oh, yeah, the Korina pricing is crazy.

The Epi Korina Explorers aren't terribly priced. They're Korina from headstock to strap button but the body is a few more pieces than vintage with a veneer over the top. Some of them look really good but some of them have really evident veneers. They sound badass.

I don't think that's a 1960...if it is it's a very early one, like the first few days of Jan.

The 1960 model usually had nickle hardware, metal capped knobs, nylon saddles on the bridge, Pat number pups, NOT PAFs.

This is all in the book "Gibson, The Classic Years" by Duchossoir

I've always read Pat No stickers didn't start until late 61 - early 62 even though the patent was actually issued in '59
