Insuring the gear

We had a very dry winter and a dry spring so far. There’s already been one wildfire and they will be more. I’m going to take out an insurance policy on all my guitars and gear but I want an instrument specific policy so I don’t have to fight over stuff with my homeowners insurance company. And so my spouse doesn’t know how much money I spent on all this stuff. There are lots of insurers out there. Can anybody recommend one?

We just worked with our agent to add on an additional policy specifically for instruments with our homeowners.

Same. I got on the phone with USAA and my home policy was updated to reflect the instruments.

You guys aren't really answering the question. If you want to be able to get insurance without having the value plastered all over the policy declaration (where wifey/hubby can see it plain as day) you need a separate instrument policy. These are widely available and shouldn't cost more than a couple hundo' a year at the most. I've not used it since Mrs. bsman doesn't know or care how many guitars I have, but I have heard that Heritage is useful in that line.

Maybe don’t be a weird spouse/bad partner.

Initially I just had a rider on our homeowners in case fire/burglary cost my PRS or Orange at the time.

Once I turned my bands into a business, I combined the business insurance along with loss/liability insurance which was required when I was DJing at certain venues, and it has been useful getting booked into larger venues when you don't blink when they ask about your liability situation.

Yeah, as I am renting now, I definitely need to add an instrument rider to the renter's insurance
