Happy new espresso machine day!

We had an old Gaggia a mate gave us for a long time, but it was a leaky mess, so that got demoted to being in my studio. Now we've got a brand new Rancilio Silvia at home! Love the coffee it makes and the steamer is miles better.

looks cool.
but i'm lazy, so i'll just stick to the Keurig.
Yeah it's not for everyone's morning routine. But I enjoy faffing about a bit, and once you get in the rhythm of things, it doesn't take more than a few minutes to get a good latte. And I just enjoy figuring out the best grind size, how to prepare the whole situation, trying different ways of foaming the (oat)milk.

For most of my life I've just been slapping a Bialetti with supermarket pre-ground on the stove, so I'm far from a coffee snob or judgemental about other people's coffee choices. :embarrassed:

Congrats! Happy New Espresso Machine Day!

I have to admit, I never would have bought one for myself. I've used many different coffee machines throughout the years, including Keurig. However, my wife bought a Breville espresso machine years ago. Now, I'm the official barista of the house. I use it daily. And, I'm fast at it.

Yeah I was always quite happy with our Bialetti and milk frother. Then my mate gave me the Gaggia, and we both got hooked, it was fun figuring out how to make good espresso with it. But there was a reason my friend just gave it away, it's kinda broken, leaky, doesn't seem to hold pressure, etc. He already got it 2nd hand, so hey ho.

So I decided to splurge a bit and get something that actually works, and isn't pre-wrecked so we can maintain it properly, clean it regularly and all that jazz.

And the Silvia is wildly cheaper in Europe than in the US, I kept seeing absurd comparisons with 1000€+ machines, didn't understand why until I saw that 900$ for one in the US is apparently a good deal. They're between 600 and 700€ here.

That looks like a dandy. I had an espresso machine back in the 80s. The steamer was wasted on me as I hate any type of milk with coffee. Actually I just hate any type of milk.

I have considered getting another espresso machine, but we have no place for one in our small kitchen. So drink one for me.
