What's the guitar of the evening?

This is the sexy beast that got a workout tonight. Normally, it would be the accoustic on a Saturday night, but it's not at home tonight, so I decided on this one.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. HC began its decline when Scott Lehman sold it to MF. They mismanaged it from day two. It's a damn shame and people need to move on. But those days were fun.
HC and HC, lotta different animals there. The GJ I remember from way back when had its group of people discussing things their way. Amps was a totally different crowd, as was EG. Open Jam, anyone?

That's why I've always reacted when I've seen people on other forums, especially TGP, badmouth HC as one forum. It wasn't. It was a bunch of very distinct sections with their own codes of conduct, their own trolls (that were accepted in one section, but banned if they started acting that way in another), and so on. In fact, it was kinda like a city with different neighbourhoods. If you'd wander into the wrong part of town, of course you'd end up with a bad impression. Same thing with HC.

But yeah, your point about Lehman selling the place, I agree with.

HC had glory days? Hmm...

Most of the HC forums were a complete mess, but the electric guitars forum was a different story for quite a while. For a couple of years there was a core group of great members. There were a lot of great things that went on there: Atrox building guitars with donations (parts and cash) from forum members then a forum member would get it, people pitching in to buy guitars for fellow members who fell on hard times and had to sell all their gear, etc. So yes, glory days. :)

I was a member over there since about '95, but mostly just lurked. The EG forum was great. One of the best threads I remember was when you went through the whole process of satisfying all the online offers and got a "free" SG! I remember everybody trying to do it with as little $ output as possible, with your spreadsheet and all. Classic. That was HC EG in a nutshell.

I did the exact same thing, and in retrospect, shoulda kept the SG  - as that sent me on a long, never-ending GAS journey .

Dammit! I haven't played all week and you people are killing me..serious geetar porn.
Great motivation. Just grabbed the teles for an unplugged workout. GF looking at me like I'm crazy.

That's a happy tele.
The barisax works.

Thanks, it is a happy tele. It just received it's final installation of new pickups and electronics in that shot, on vacation at Puget Sound.

The Bari is being played in that photo by my Dad. He could fill that thing too, even in his late 70's. The sax I grew up hearing him play was his Alto, but he loved that Bari too, that he received as a gift I think for his 70th birthday. That was one of the final times I got to play with him before he passed. It was a lot of fun to play that nice acoustic that he and my Mom helped me get, along with him. Right there I am laying down jazzy chords in the key of C (Somewhere over the Rainbow) while he played the lead line. Tonight it will likely play a few of those chords, and also some PJ chords. Lots of feeling in that guitar. You can feel the music on your chest through that rosewood back.

Ok, sorry, I am rambling on there. But I really enjoy those guitars. My motivation to play is coming back after a little lay off at the end of ski season.

Not my guitar. It's the guitar of the brother-in-law of a friend of mine. An RC Allen. Apparently he was a friend of RC Allen's. The guy stopped playing years ago and this guitar lives in the closet. When I heard about it, I asked him to take a picture of it for me.

Given that RC Allen recently passed, I thought I'd post it.

Ha! I forgot about that one. What a serious pain in the arse that whole process was, but I did end up with a brand new SG Standard shipped directly from Musicians Friend for something like $250 and a bunch of other people were then able to do it for even less. That was back when I actually had time to research and pull off a trick like that. Now, I barely have time to even play guitar. :)

Due an change in laundry detergent, the gave me a severe case of dermatitis on both my legs and my arms, I haven't been able to play guitar for the past 3 weeks or so. :( But, thankfully, the Prednisone (a very strong anti-inflammatory steroid) my doctor put me on, is finally getting rid of the dermatitis, so I can finally play some, guitar again. :) I'm doing laundry (with different detergent [hypoallergenic of course]), and since I have to (from now on) run my laundry twice through the rinse cycle, I have time to kill. So, I plan to play two guitars tonight:

1999 Fender Toronado - yep I finally found (5 weeks ago) an original version Toronado (they were made from 1998-2003), that wasn't going for silly money, to replace the one I had to sell in 2000, due to a money crunch brought on by me foolishly lending a former friend (who promised to pay me back, and never made the effort to do so) close to $2000. It's gonna be fun!

Then I plan to give my oh so nice caddy green Gretsch Country Club some quality playing time
