What Mics are you guys using?

realtree71

I crash bikes
Just kinda curious what all you guys are using for voice, instruments, drums etc....

Ive got a couple different for voicing... Rode NT1A, Rode NTK, Sure sm7b, and a Blue baby Bottle

I use a old Aphex tube preamp

I pretty much use sm57/sm58 for every thing else

For you guys that have those high dollar mics..... you glad you spent the $$$ ??

My highest dollar mic is my Mojave MA-201fet. I can put it on pretty much anything I want and it sounds great. I really want one of the MA-300s, which is similar sounding mic, but with a tube and multi-pattern switching. It would really be perfect then.

I love ribbon mics. I don't currently have any super high dollar ones, although my Groove Tubes Velo8 was fairly pricy when they were first released. I'm also lucky enough to have a great mic rental place just down the street, so if I want a Neumann or a Coles for a couple of days I can get it relatively cheaply.

My locker at home:

Sennheiser e609
AKG d112
AKS C1000 pair
Shure Sm57s/58s puke0
Shure SM81
Shure SM535
EV RE-320
EV RE-20
Cascade Fathead BE
Groove Tubes Velo8
Little Blondie
Samson C02 pair (kinda junk, but it never hurts to have some extra cheapies)
Mojave MA-201fet
Assorted weird mics, including harp mics, old school pa mics, and 60s and 70's home tape recorder mics.

the mojave is on my list one of my freinds have the 201fet and the 300... they're very nice

My vocalist buddies all have thier own mics

I have quite a few other mics also because of my job... lots of custom cut sure lapel mic, rode video mics and a few rode shot gun mics..

I have a couple of AT2020's, a Shure KSM27 and odds and ends like an SM57, a Beta SM57, a couple of Sennheiser e609's.

All I use is a Sennheiser e609. I have a couple Sure Beta 58a in the drawer for vocals when needed.

AT2020, a couple of Nady Starpower mics, and a home-built condenser that runs off a 9-volt battery

The Mojave 200-300 series are great.
The cascade Fathead IIs are the the ticket for ribbon mics.
Audio Technica 4047 is indispensable for me.

We shot some video for AT where we had a pair of almost everything they make.
Some standouts: AE3000 on guitar & Drums, AT4080 (ribbon) on acoustic bass, The Pro63 on anything you'd put a 57 on (super cheap too), AT4060 one of the best tube mics currently out there. AT4050 & 4047 for just about anything.
The AT2020 was also a great value mic.
The AT4051 is the best deal for a SDC going too.

MXL R144 is another great ribbon at only $99.
The MXL v67i is also a great bargain. (the non-tube one - about $150)

Here's my mic run down:

The dynamics:
2 - SM 58's
1 - Digital Reference LVX2 (an SM58 clone that I really like for my voice)
1 - Digital Reference GX1 (an SM57 clone)
3 - Nady SP-5's
1 - Sennheiser 835
1 - Shure WH20XLR headset mic (I sing backing vocals while I play the drums)

For mic'ing my drums (currently only mic'ing the bass and using the Audix overheads)
1 - CAD KM 212 (for the bass drum)
3 - TM211 dynamic cardioid tom mics
1 - SN 210 dynamic cardioid snare mic
2 - CM 217 cardioid mini pencil condenser mics
2 - Audix f15 condensers (I currently use these for overheads)
1 - Shure PG56

The condensers:
1 - MXR 910
1 - MXR 990
1 - MXR R40 (ribbon mic)
1- ADK Generis GC-1 (my first condenser)

some cheap-ass Peavey thing.
came with stand and cord.
only used for vocal recording.
everything else is direct-in

Mostly been covered above.

R0de NT-1a
Blue Baby Bottle
Mojave Audio 101
Shure SM-57
Sennheiser MD 421
Cascade Fathead II

Most of mine have been covered as well.

I've got a couple of SM58s that only get used live.
SM57 for electric guitars, both live and recorded.
Some kind of CAD handheld live vocal condenser. It doesn't really get used much anymore, but I used it as a live vocal mic for a few years.

For LDCs, I've got:

AKG C4000B
CAD Trion 8000 tube mic
a pair of AT2020s

For SDCs, I've got:

Pair of CAD C9s
Pair of MXL 991s (I think that's the right model)
Pair of Shures that came in a drum mic package

Then, I've got the rest of that Shure drum mic package. Not bad, not great. Don't remember the models.
Audix D6 kick mic
5 or 6 Audix ADX-90s
3 Chinese Shure SM57 knockoffs

I've also got some kind of stage floor mic made by Crown.

I may have a couple of others floating around.

I mainly use the SM57 for guitars, either the C4000B or the CAD Trion 8000 for vocals, and I switch up on acoustic guitar between the AT2020s, the CAD SDCs, or the Shure SDCs.

I really like CAD mics for bang for the buck.

I've got an SM57 and an MXL 990. That's it, that's all.

Son has 1 SM57 "amp mic"

I have
Beta 52 "kick"
2 Digital reference DR_GX1 " "amp mics"
3 Behringer XM8500 "vocal"
2 Senheiser 609 "vocal"
1 Samson CO1 "condenser"
1 Sterling ST55 "condenser"
1 EH 12AX7 "tube mic pre"

"For you guys that have those high dollar mics..... you glad you spent the $$$ ??"

You are probably talking about $1000, and above mics, I can say The ST55, gave$50 used, is way better than the CO1, that I gave $25 for.

What I have at the moment:

Røde K2 tube mic (usually my go to vocal mic, need to upgrade on that one. Good, but not high end)
Josephson C42 (matched pair). Fantastic SDCs. Frequently used as overheads and for recording acoustics.
Sennheiser MD441 - great on snare as well as vocals.
Sennheiser MD421. Got two of those, Fabulous on toms, guitar amps and in particular micing bass amps.
Sennheiser e602. Kick mic.
Sennheiser e604 (3 of those). Usually on toms.
Oktava MC012. Often used on hihats and occasionally acoustic gtrs.
Beyer m160 ribbon mic. Love it on guitar amps.
Studio Projects C1
Studio Projects B3
Røde NT1

Got a lot of ground covered with these.

Really bad gas for those new AEA N22 ribbons btw. Think I need better preamps first though. :embarrassed:
