What is the worst musical gear related purchase or trade you have ever done?

Kick Henry Jackassowski
A few years ago I had a 1993 Paul Reed Smith custom 22 that was hand wired by Paul himself. I traded it for a PB Wolfgang standard stop tail and the Peavey classic 50. What was I thinking?!

I normally don't buy new guitars, they are either usually used or new old stock. About a year or so ago, I purchased a brand-new Suhr pro modern. I have the dealer upgrade to pick ups too.

I ended up selling the guitar about six months later and took a $600 it honest. So horrible.

I'm usually good about buying something only if I know I can make a profit or break even if I sell it. Gas just got the better part of me on that one.

What about you?

Selling either my originally Silver Jubilee Marshal head to buy a Mesa is one. Selling my 1974 super reverb to a student is another.

Selling my Twin Reverb to buy a Mesa Boogie Mark III.

Selling my Mesa Boogie Mark III to cover my share of the rent for a few months.

I've made a few questionable pedal purchases (Metal Muff being one, or the Line6 metal distortion ToneCore pedal). Other than that I've been pretty good with my gear purchases and still use just about everything that I've ever purchased.

I never make impulse purchases, and always wait for a great deal on something I'm GASing for. I've made several regrettable purchases where I went too cheap, ended up wanting something better, and couldn't really unload the cheapo to trade up.

Several guitars I bought come to mind.
The LP Junior, the (supposedly superior) Peerless made Casino...
But I don't regret them too much. That's the cost of an education sometimes.

Hmmmmmm. I've made more than a few.

Selling my Roland JC-77 jazz chorus to buy a Line6 Flextone II.
Selling my 1980 Les Paul to get a pointy Jackson.
Selling a Fender Twin reverb (modern 90's era, not vintage) to buy a rack fx processor and MIDI controller pedal.

I think those are probably the big ones.

Oh man, owning an ART SGX-2000 Express. My dad bought that for me when I was a wee lad in high school. My Randall guitar head shit the bed, so I figured that was almost one of the most expensive items in the AMS catalog, so it HAD to be good  Plus Ministry used it on the Psalm 69 album, so it REALLY had to be good :facepalm:

Yeah, still have that POS for the lights in my rack. Along with the X-19 foot controller that needs two MIDI cables for two way communication. Chalk that up to being 15, no internet or real stores around for opinions on that piece, and wanting something cause it was pricey. Man, I hate that thing.

I've sold some good stuff (sold Otto Vowinkel to justify my David Rubio) but, luckily, I've yet to retreat any of my sales.

I've bought some shitty stuff over the years, mostly pedals and tech.

Funny you mention this. My ART attack module is the worst piece of shit I've ever purchased.

Carvin DC127T. Couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough.
Fender Blues Deluxe. Impossible to play at any reasonable volume.
M-Audio speakers. Left speaker (the non-powered one) stopped working.

Oh, man, I remember seeing those in the music stores and thinking they looked really cool.

Selling my BC Rich Eagle Supreme, my Ibanez PR-1 and another BC RichASM-1 one-of-a-kind

Selling my Les Paul Custom.
2nd worse was buying a Strat,I just don't get along with them.

Paging PunkKiitty -- please pick up the white courtesy phone...

Seriously, though, two trades come to mind: I traded a Godin LG-P90 for a Chandler lap steel I never use, and I traded an old model Gretsch G5120 for a Yamaha A/E classical that had a crack in the top I only noticed later.

Getting rid of my first Lead II or my Mesa Mark I head. I thought I was going to give up playing after one of my bands folded, so I sold everything and the Lead went bye bye. Then with the Mesa, I thought getting a channel switching head would be better.

Interesting. What didn't you like about the Carvin? From my experience, they play well and sounds pretty good. I only sold mine because they felt stiff
