What is our verdict on Jack Fruit?

Try it out with canned jackfruit from an Asian grocery store before making the effort to cut up a whole one.

Or jack a root as I always heard in my immature mind.
 
I had maybe a quarter of one that was shrinkwrapped. I ate all the sweet bits out of it and got a huge headache. It was pretty good but kind of mild. Canned stuff is underripe and totally different.
 
I’ve had a number of vegetarian “fake meat” preparations that rely on jack fruit. In that context it’s kind of meh and fillerish.
