Weekend Wrapup

Friday, we were denied port entry to Cozumel thanks to the fear epidemic. Yes, I was on that ship. Nothing like having a manager of the lab that worked with US ebola patient 1 that never touched any samples and was asymptomatic for 19 days being on board when the CDC decided to restrict all travel for several of the concentric circle layers of hospital workers. People eating themselves to death on board was a far greater health risk! I don't blame the lab worker since she followed all CDC guidelines before sailing. She and her travel partner self quarantined under the ship's doctor's care for the rest of the voyage. Carnival did a great job and took great care to keep the passengers informed and entertained the rest of the cruise. :thu:

Saturday at sea, so we took it easy and relaxed. Instead of gorging ourselves, we ate very healthy each day and actually lost a few pounds thanks to all the walking, swimming, snorkeling and exercise. We had a wonderful, relaxing yet adventurous time.

We met all kinds of fun and interesting people from all over the world, including the crew. I spent time with a few aging WWII vet's that were full of spunk. We will do something like this again. The only complaint would be the lack of a better ventilation system in the casino section. I can't stand the stench of smoking. That shit burns the throat and eyes.

The very layed back little town. Almost no tourist type of stuff going on. The people were super cool and the fresh off the boat seafood among the best we've ever tasted. This key island is about 1 hour away by speed boat from Belize City. It is built up on a mangrove tree root base.

Wow, I can't believe you were lucky enough to be on THAT cruse.

Sounds like you had a pretty good time anyway though... nice pics that make me want to go on a trip...

And I agree with you about not blaming the lab worker. This was all about ebola fear, not ebola.

That reminds me of a funny poll my wife stumbled upon on a certain news site.

What poses a bigger threat to US Citizens?
A: Isis
B: Ebola
C: the threats are equal

One of the first comments was, if by equal you mean the artificial sweetener, then the answer is C, because that is a greater threat than both to the health of Americans.

Sat. - Hit Home Depot at 6:embarrassed:0 am to pick up some sod and seed. Re-sodded a handful of bare patches on both lawns (been a long, hot summer), spread some EZ-Seed on some worn areas, and overseeded everything else with regular fescue seed. Then I demoed my closet and did touch-up paint.
Sun. - Installed a complete Elpha closet organization system in my closet, as well as a couple shelves in my wife's closet. Then put up Halloween decorations.

Went to a small festival yesterday at a local winery. The one band I heard was pretty tight, though their originals seemed to borrow heavily from a variety of hits from the 70's. The lead guitar player was pretty good and had a fantastic Tele tone going on. When I finally got a chance to look up at the stage (my 2 year old was a handful yesterday) the guy was playing a PRS 513. I've always lusted after the 513 and was a little shocked that he wasn't holding a Tele.

That might turn me off of cruise ships forever....even though sounds like you still had a good time...frankly I'm not a big cruise ship fan

Friday - Biked to work and back...uphill and into a headwind after a long day made for a slow ride back
Sat - Not much, went to dinner with friends and had a couple of nice IPA at dinner. Came back and played Rocksmith and had some improvements on songs I hadn't improved on for a while...I guess drinking does help playing after all
Sunday - Shorter bike ride by a few miles than the recent ones but much more climbing. Watched some football primarily to see how my FF team was doing

Forgot I finally got around to changing strings on Sat on 1 guitar...it sounded much better...I think I left it too long...need to get back to no more than 3 months between changes

I've been on 2. The second was in August and was better...because it was much more casual and we did get to see different islands in Hawaii. But it is the restriction that bothers me the most.....ship sails so you need to be off and on by certain times. It makes a vacation a bit more like work...meeting is at 5 please be punctual or it will be reflected on your review  :P

Same. I have friends who swear by them, but I've never seen the appeal.

I can certainly see the negative side. I can't stand crowds and rarely like typical tourist excursions. The trips we took growing up were self guided exploration events.
The kid to adult ratio was pretty low this time of year, which helps in my attempts to keep the little fuckers off my ocean.

The cruise line is cutting our next cruise cost by 50%, so I'll take them up on that. I think I'd rather spend 5+ nights at a place like Cozumel and really get to know the island, however.

Yeah, I'm more of a lets see what the day brings guy. The idea of vacation with an schedule seems like it misses the point. I know some folks aren't comfortable with exploring and I can see where a cruise would a perfect solution. Not to mention all of the stops are at tourist traps that don't really reflect the place you're visiting. Since your time is limited at each stop, you generally can't venture far enough to escape the tourist zone.

Not to mention if you expect me to "dress for dinner" or eat at scheduled times, we are not going to get along.

Furthered my pick designs.
Got back to the red button in the studio again...

Continued my battle wth MS. Dropped like a rock on sat, running like a 20 year old today... Now to get it to stay at this level. Eating stuff that would make Rambo Puke... And he would eat things that would make a billy goat puke.... ??? I'm doomed lol

They did that twice. All you needed was a pair of slacks and a Polo shirt, or you can eat at any number of other places on board besides the main dining rooms during those nights. Regular nights there are no flip-flops, tank tops or swim suits.

I only dress "up" for interviews, funerals and weddings as required.

We met people that were on their 19th and 25th cruises. messedup0

Thursday, drove to Madison WI.
Friday, ate lots of cheese and drank beer. Walked around Madison.
Saturday, see Friday. Farmers market. Cave of the mounds, then the grumpy troll for dinner.
Sunday, drove to Pittsburgh, PA.

That is a deal breaker for me too. years ago my grandfather took the entire family to a fancy resort for my grandmother's 80th birthday. The place had to loan me a jacket and tie so I could eat dinner. I'm on vacation, you are lucky I am wearing long pants and shoes.
