Volvo: No one will die in our cars

I can see them getting close. Limit acceleration rate, lock top speed at 55mph, use software to cut off the engine when driving patterns indicate intoxication or sleepiness, and you're probably 90% of the way there in a car with modern safety features.

It is possible now, but no one wants a tube roll cage, 5 point belts and a HANS device/helmet, and window nets/intrusion devices in their daily driver.

I think cars certainly can be safer, and volvo has a long history as a leader in safety measures, but I doubt they can get to a zero fatality rate and still have an affordable and easy to use car.
