Trek recalls 1 million bikes, rider paralyzed

disc brakes also caused some horrible injuries in the pro road cycling peloton this year. Those things are like a saw blade and dangerous for road races where riders are so close together and crashes are not uncommon.

I love them on my mountain bike, especially when crossing streams where brake pads used to rub sand into your rims while braking when wet. But they are totally unnecessary on road bikes. Just another opportunity to sell more expensive bikes.

Anyway I'm assuming the Trek recall is for mountain bikes. I've never owned a Trek and they make many of their own parts, instead using standard Shimano or SRAM like everyone else.

I love disc brakes on my CX and XC bikes, but my "fast" road bike will have rim brakes.
