This is what Nels is really known for, being a jazz guitarist. Wilco is just what pays the bills.

And yes, I actually like this record.
 
I like him for both. :shrug: He was a great addition to Wilco and if it gives him a bit more financial stability to chase his muse, that's fucking awesome.
 
I love Nels in Wilco. I tried to watch the NPR Tiny Desk with the Nels Cline singers and while I still dug his playing, the rest was just noise to me. I couldn't make it past the first song. It was like they were 4 people just playing and not paying attention to what the others were doing.
 
I'm not crazy about his playing in either context, TBH.

I did like in Jenny Scheinman's album from a couple of years ago.
 
I think at this point, Nels is "really known for" being the guitarist in popular, successful rock band Wilco, who also does weird jazz records or whatever.

Yeah, I had the same experience pretty much exactly. Love him in Wilco though.
