The "Recording fest for those guys who have done this before" REVEAL!

The talent displayed here is truly humbling.

And yeah, Dexter is the man. Im seriously impressed.

Mark- rocking good time on this one. Quality vox and tasty tone. Well done

Prages-Hang Great voice and nice lyrics. home-skillet. Which guitar did you use for this one? It sounds excellent.
-Sweet Emotion- Excellent tone. And as always, really strong vocals. I'm jealous of your mad studio skills.

Dexter- As Always is the way all modern rock should sound. Everything about it is excellent. Better Days is great too. I dig the jangle.

Telecaster911- Thunderous. Your guitar sounds awesome and Prages soared like a unicorn on the vocals.

suhnton- Fire on High-The song is superb but the panning is makin my ears go all wonky. 5's- Hella sweet. You done real good.

Tamoore- Such a beautiful song and story. Your demo sounds better than any of my "final drafts." :embarrassed: Excellent harmonies and congrats on winning the GJ contest.

DenverDave- Killer tune. You have a very strong voice too. :thu:

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

It's a Matchbox 20 song. :embarrassed: I've always thought that Rob Thomas wrote really good lyrics, especially on the Tabitha's Secret stuff and the first few Matchbox 20 albums. After the 3rd or so Matchbox 20 album, his lyrics got a little more watered down, and I didn't particularly like the musical direction he took. I still love his earlier stuff though.

I used my trusty old beater on this one...even for the 'bongos'.

I guess reading is fundamental. :embarrassed:

I'm about halfway through so far - as always, excellent contributions from all. I continue to be amazed by the talent round these parts...

Hey guys..once again I haven't abandoned the fest but I want to get a chance to really listen to stuff before I comment....probably tomorrow...

First of all, my natal language is not english, but I understand a *little* when listening.

markwein - Nice song, I will like to listen more of that last soloing at 2:28 :). It say in a part "this time is the last time that you see me around your heart"? (haha, sorry I mod the songs when I listen to them and more in english).

prages - I see now how can a battery enter a calm ambient without break the calm :)... hahaha sweet emotion!!! :) shalala :).

dexter inferno - I liked how sounds "as always" :).

telecaster911 - that was cool :), remember me of Iron miden :)

suhton - I liked fire on high nice sound there.

tamoore - nice song, good acoustics.

DenverDave - nice one :) "she is gone away".

MattSkibaIsGOD - you also play the harmonic, nice songs.

day by day - nice rhytm :) nice voice, reminds me of bon jovi?

same old song - haha like playing a game.

you feel like home - nice voice :), sweet solo part 2:embarrassed:0 or so.

thx guys :)

I managed to d/load a full copy of Hang. I'll just echo Tamoore's sentiments here and say everything is pretty badass. That acoustic has a really full-bodied sound, and I really dig the percussion in the background.

Mark's track rocks too, just heard it. Really nice guitar tones. What did you use for the cleaner intro guitar stuff? I could definitely "borrow" that.

Thanks!

The intro "clean" guitar is actually two guitars playing single notes...I think if you pan the track hard left or hard right you should be able to hear each guitar by itself.

It is a really rocking tune, i hope you dont just drop it, its really cool. I actually like the kinda ozzyish sounding chorus, its got a feeling of raw anger that is emotional and really great.

And your solo at the end just smokes. maybe you can find a way to lengthen it a bit. hahaha.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments :)
I'm blushing here :embarrassed:

Got them all downloaded and will post my thoughts tomorow evening, going on a longish gig trip today.

I've updated the mix on mine. I put some automation here and there to smooth things out a bit. Thanks for the listens... :)

I really enjoyed these. I played them all afternoon at the office yesterday. I got a little carried away with the volume so some office mates stopped in to listen for a while. They really enjoyed them and made me play a few a second time. In fact I am playing through them at the counter with my Saturday morning coffee.

There is some good variety in the bunch and I really do like all of them. I appeciate you guys posting in here. It really helps us less experienced guys learn.

telecaster- nice drive going there, had that "above all" feeling that makes it strong choice for "commercialism". liked it, vocals could and well "should" be louder on the recording :thu:

suhnton- fire on high- vocals were very low, guitar had a strong driving force that made this song interesting, drms sounded like they were not jiving too well on this song :thu:
5's. rocked, vocals needed to be upped some, really dug the rhythm guitar, liked how the song was so well organized "musically"

Tamoore- soft entry, nice vocals, but you might consider upping the vocals some, a sound story song, connected with me, so smooth :thu:

Denver Dave- out of time- Wow, caught me as soon as it started, so "professional" liked it very much, liked how it grew on me :thu:

Mattskibaisgod- don't think twice it's alright- nicely performed by you, very good pick'n, "give me some fingerpicking lessons please" thanks hobo :thu:
. farewell angelina- liked it, nice vocals
. girl from the north country- you made this one powerful, so simple, good stuff there :thu:

Prages - kick ass as usual. :thu: Do you mic the Avatar cab for your bass sound? What did you use for the electrics on "Sweet emotion"? I might have to take some "production" lessons from you or something...

Dexter - awesome...I dig the "wasted" tune. Did you record it or was it in a commercial studio? I kind of prefer the production on Better days...

Tele (and prages) - great job....This is a song out of my teenage years. I want to play some Maiden now :embarrassed:

Suhnton - nice songs! I like how you have your own "sound"...are you playing in a band or performing much?

Tamoore - I wish I could write lyrics as well as you. And sing. And write melodies and harmonies. :)

Denverdave - I still think you sing like Glen Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket....I really enjoy this song :thu:

MattSkibIsGod - I wish I could play fingerstyle and sing like that...all 3 songs are really nice perfomances....

:thu:

I'm a horrible fingerstyle player...you get tons of admiration from me for pulling off those tunes like that...

I really do appreciate it. I've been a strummer for as long as I've been playing and only in the last year have I started to work on my fingerpickin'.

:thu:
