The Pretty Reckless...thoughts?

Dogsinplastic

avuncular to no one
So I was doing a rare radio listen the other day and this rock tune with a female singer came on that was actually pretty decent. Turns out it was The Pretty Reckless with the girl Taylor Momsen. Iwas surprised as I'd dismissed them based on the trying too hard blonde teenie skank image of Ms. Momsen who is apparently also an actress.

I've been listening to their latest album on Spotify. The music's sounds like good for hard rock/metal and she really seems to have some pipes. Without the hype and visual distractions, I dig it. Not groundbreaking/innovative (maybe a bit cliched if anything), but better than anything I hear from male fronted bands.

I've only heard a handful of songs, but I've liked them all, at least enough not to change the station.

Plus, I saw a video of them playing in Brazil and Momsen got two local chicks on stage and stripped them of their shirts.

One of them wasn't wearing a bra. :thu:

They also seem to be more of a hard rock band, with a clear grunge influence. I'm listening to a tune called Blame Me right now that kind of vaguely reminds me of a slicker take on something from Down on the Upside.

While reading up on them and the new album it turns out some porn actress guested on the album and showed up at a show and gave Taylor a lapdance. So the young Ms. Momsen is really getting in touch with her sexuality...kinda like Miley, but I can at least listen to the music. Thankfully she's under the radar enough musically that people seem to focusing on the music and not the antics.

It's possibly magnified by the fact our production folks listen to radio all day long, and one or the other songs from them come on every half hour. lol.

Yeah, I stopped listening ot the radio for more than a few songs nearly two decades ago. Unless you can get a good independent or college station, radio is pretty worthless. Now I only have myself to blame if someone plays a song to death. I've done it quite a bit.

I figured the same thing, but our local rock station has had them in pretty consistent rotation and that "Take Me Down" song is pretty damned catchy.

I don't see a song from them with that title on Spotify. Is it the same band? Might you me Follow Me Down? I'm only asking to clarify, not to bust nuts.

And how can you not love a song sung by a chick about giving blow jobs?

I like You Make Me Want To Die a lot too.

She has some stage presence as well...

It's all good for radio fair over here. She does have a good rock voice.

I was amazed to learn that she was Cindy-Lou Who in The Grinch.

She's been friends with Jenna Haze for several years now, from what I gather.

I saw The Pretty Reckless open for Evanescence back in late 2011. I hadn't seen any of their videos nor did I know who they were. I thought they were pretty good in concert, and Taylor Momsen had an excellent voice and stage presence. I bought the 1st album used at the local used record shop for like $2.99 and it's not bad, especially for that price.

I saw them open up for guns n toes a few years ok. They were ok but after a while, their songs sounded the same. I got bored pretty quick

According teh interwebz, Ms. Haze is about 32 and Taylor is only 21!

Now I might be sounding like and old prude, but teenagers should NOT be hanging out with pornographic performers! EVER!
