The Grand Tour.....what did you think?

I really don't need another subscription but am a HUGE Top Gear fan so I need to consider it unless there will be another way to watch.

What everyone said...

Loved it. My youngest son absolutely geeked out when I told him about the show, as he loved the original, so now we have a show to watch together...

Yeah, some parts were a bit over the top, but it's that type of show...the cars are over the top, so...

Definitely glad we got Amazon Prime

Same here. Hopefully it will come out in another format a few months from now. It's not worth me getting Amazon prime only for that and that would be the only reason to get Amazon prime

Just got done watching it again.

MORE POO CAME OUT!!!! I didn't think it was possible to shit yourself to death!!!!

Don't count on it. Jeff Bezos said that filming Grand Tour was extremely, extremely expensive.

We didn't think we would have use for Prime, but since getting it we have more than made up for the cost in free shipping. Even if you just watched GT and did nothing else with Prime, it's only $8.25 per episode. Do you have a Roku or similar streaming box already? If not you would need one of those as well. Which you can get via amazon (includes free shipping)

Well I'm on a fixed income so I need to watch my pennies . I would worry about having Prime since it would be an excuse for my wife to buy crap we don't need (like more dog toys for the dog to destroy). And I barely watch Netflix (we have an account through my sister in law so it's free) so I'm not much into streaming..or watching much TV for that matter. If we get some decent rains this year maybe I'll change my mind

They sent out a code today. Good for the next 24 hours or so. Unlimited uses.

Oh my God, the second episode was epic. It was everything Top Gear could have been, but never quite was. I nearly pissed myself laughing.

Although, I was really hoping to see Charlize Theron. I knew they were going to fuck that up, and I was bummed. She rocks my world.

Well, I am up to date and have seen them all at this point.

Curious to hear what everyone else thinks.

Honestly, I am kind of disappointed.

I know it sounds kind of odd, but there is precious little in the way of "everyday" cars you would/could buy and just endless scenes of super and hyper car porn. It's good for a while, but in the end, not very informative, I'm afraid.

Someone needs to slap Richard Hammond, as he's WAY over-acting on the show.......and they need to tone the whole thing down and bring it back to reality.

And just because you CAN exclaim "Jesus Christ!" or "Shit!" or what-have-you on Amazon's subscription service doesn't mean you should.........imo, it cheapens the presentation.

Liked the African beach-buggy special, but the second part jumped the shark.

Anyone else watched them all and can offer up an opinion?

And get rid of the American NASCAR driver guy. That's painful to watch.

I think it speaks volumes when I still refer to it as "Top Gear" and have to make a point to call it "The Grand Tour".

They need to come up with some new material, a different format, SOMETHING that makes it different. IOW, it's not getting better, in my book......some episodes are better than others, but overall, it's just Top Gear with better camera angles and a bigger budget.

I agree, but... you don't mess with a winning formula. It IS Top Gear. Yes, The American must go. On that, I am 100% with you. The mild profanity doesn't bother me a bit. If anything, it makes it more true to life than the over-censored crap shoved upon us forever, and the episodes of TG as they aired in the UK has just as much of it if not more.

Hammond gets irritating no doubt. He does seem like a mild sycophantic errand boy for Clarkson at times. He needs to better establish himself and stop being a bitch.

I have every confidence it will improve and evolve as the episodes stack up and public opinion has its voice heard. Bezos NEEDS this show to be successful, he will listen to what the people want, up to the point it conflicts with elements the BBC have ownership over.

Everyone I know that was a fan of TG loves the show overall. It's everything TG was amp'd up a degree minus the Stig & star in a reasonably priced car.
They've kept the essence of what TG always was; a gorgeous location show that's more about the humorous chemistry of the three presenters banging around with some cars. Yeah, the way they are using Skinner hasn't added anything to the show over the season & the brain crash bit is pretty worn out at this point. After this first season & cemented popularity of the show, they can hopefully depart from the expectation for another Stig or celebrity lap times. I guess if you thought TG was really about the cars, I could see how you might be disappointed.

I just started watching these a few days ago. I think I am about 4-5 episodes in. It kind of started slow and felt pretty stiff at first, but it definitely improved. It isn't Top Gear, but it is a good facsimile and enjoyable. I think next season things will really improve and the show will settle into a groove.

I hate The American car driver. His lines are lame. The killing celebrities thing was kind of funny a few times, but it doesn't seem worth being a recurring feature. I also agree that Hammond needs to stop overacting. The first few episodes all the guys were overacting, but Clarkson and May settled in a bit, but Hammond still seems over the top.

Anyway, I like it. It isn't Top Gear, but it is something close enough that it feels familiar.

I have only two issues with the show...the episodes are not long enough, and they don't have enough of a variety of segments...

The only episode so far that has not worked for me was the one where they built cars out of naturally occurring materials...it just seemed forced and unfunny to me...but overall I am VERY pleased to be watching it on a Friday night...

Same boat. Felt like it took a couple episodes to hit full stride and the American is annoying but the rest has been good to great.

It's still better than 99.97352% of anything on network tv.

Loved the episode when the hamster learned to drift.

Yeah, the American is annoying, but that's the point. I don't know whom they would replace him with but I think John Force would be awesome. Yeah, he's a straight line guy, which would be even better watching him navigate the twisties. Maybe have a John Force destroys a ________ and walks away segment:grin: The commentary would be epic!

Getting caught up.. . Watched the two Dune Buggy episodes. Just as ridiculous and funny as older specials. Difficult to be as epic as the ones when we weren't expecting what they would do. Now we are used to them leaving someone behind, sabatogeing one of their cars, etc. Still great to have new shows though.

I thought the final episode really captured the feel of the old Top Gear...multiple segments, mainly about cars...

Very much looking forward to season 2...
