The Day Of The Message Board

And to be true to the point of this thread, I did years ago sign up at LR..

I posted a handful of posts over there and soon discovered that it was a very slow place so it became a place that I checked out whenever...
I still look at it from time to time because, you know,it's still in my favorites folder with a few dozen other things..

I guess this thread has come full circle.........

But it was more about the traffic flow of HC...

Think I discovered EG around 2007 and started visiting GJ not long after.

Wasn't there some crazy kid that joined GJ named paste face or something?

Anyone ever see Chase around? Forget his full screen name.

Is ChuckyB on here?
Chase got married and became a doctor - he was on here until life got crazy and I don't even see him on Facebook anymore. ChuckyB was on here for a brief period of time but I see him on Facebook daily.

Didn't chase post a picture of his wife and she had great legs. He moved from Virginia to Georgia too if it's the dude I'm thinking of. She had great legs.

In the changing over of HCGJ there was a long period of time that if you didn't know the HCGJ existed you didn't visit because you had to ask for permission to have access granted to the HCGJ. I had a running joke in my profile here about being part of an exclusive guitar forum because a moderator had to approve for you to enter it above being approved for their regular board. Regularly I would have the most current comment on everything showing on the page. It was sad.

Mojo tp...

I don't know...while I think forums are the safe places for us geezers, kids my daughter's age (early 20s) are still using FB quite a lot, but who knows? Even MySpace was white-hot for awhile .

Virtually all of my students (university) still use Facebook daily.

My first forum (not HC) has hardly any traffic on it anymore. It used to be pretty active in its own smaller way. Not sure if that is a symptom of forums in general, or just what happened there after some controversies and banning, and people just moving on.

Look, I know you and many hated Bucky and D-man, but they were just characters on the internet. Both were actually fairly decent folks when they weren't playing their parts.chears

I actually met up with D-Man in person and sang a few songs with his band in Florida.

I've always joined forums to post questions. I joined HCEG initially to ask about electric guitar questions (shocking I know). I went to some of the other HC forums for information/entertainment but didn't post much. They always served that purpose for me (joined a bike forum for learning about bikes, an early retirement forum to learn about early retirement etc). The HCEG one was the closest to a community IMO that I was on. I actually corresponded with a couple of people outside of the forum for a while (though they were quite a distance from me and I have never met anyone from a forum IRL). When HC went tits up I came here and stayed since it still has the feeling of community compared to other forums I belong to.

Nothing is as good as it used to be, and it never was. :embarrassed:
I so miss the internet of 20+ years ago, when real men grew cobwebs instead of beards while their porn pic's downloaded. :quag:

On a side note, I finally created a facebook profile last week. :embarrassed: This is an indicator that the last nail has been hammered into the FB coffin.

I'm using it mostly to follow groups, bands, and activities I am interested in, and will keep the "friends" numbers as low as possible.

MOJO.

The scatological British comic Viz once boasted on its cover "Now not as good as it used to be again, for a limited time only!".
A guy around my age was saying today at the diner, "This current generation is the worst ever." I pointed out that is what our parents said about our generation. With no sense of irony, he stated, "Well. they were wrong."

I've been off of Facebook since around January 2015 and don't ever miss it or need it.
Forums are my go to for information. It's nice to be able to ask a question and get experienced answers. Over the years I've learned to wade through and/or avoid the BS.
I will always be a forum user as long as there are forums to use.
This is my only guitar forum. I am very picky about specialized forums. I have this, one videogame forum, and one gun forum I frequent.
