What is your answer?

I think as with the one you've already finished the angled flame looks quite nice, but it's all about how you want the flame to look. Once you finish it (again, as with the finished one) you aren't really going to see the grain, but the flame should pop. As such, the way you the flame to appear dictates this decision.

For what it's worth though, I wouldn't put the guard on this guitar despite how awesome it and the color of the guitar go together.
