The 2016 Formula One Thread.

Hooray for the end of that knucklehead in F1. Glad to see Magnussen get his seat.

My predictions for this season,

Every week Ferrari will issue a statement saying their results were not satisfactory and that changes will be made. People will get fired, people will get hired. Ferrari will finish third.
Mclaren will continue to proclaim how things are getting better with the Honda engine. They will finish behind Manor. Someone at Honda will commit suicide.
Red Bull will continue to fail and continue to blame it on Renault. They will threaten to quit F-1
Renault will take the old Lotus car and the same engine they sell Red Bull and finish ahead of Red Bull.
Williams will finish second suprising everyone who thought they only ran in historic races.
Force India will win a race and prove to everyone they are a real team.
Mercedes is already 200 points ahead and we should just save alot of time and fuel and just hand Louis the trophy and be done with it.

I can't wait for the new car launches. This time of year is exciting as everything is back to zero and the possibilities are endless.

Rumor has it that Honda has resolved the issues they had last year (they knew what the problem was but couldn't do anything about it due to the stupid development token rules). As a result there is an additional 230 HP over what they had last year. If that is the case, and now the Pormodouru (former Red Bull aerodynamisist) has had the whole year to design the new car McLaren could be very competitive.

It is also said the Ferrari have made some big changes to their power unit that could improve performance significantly.

Not sure about Renault, but hopefully they make some real gains over the winter on their PU.

It would be nice to have a 4 way fight between Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. It could be the most exciting season since 2012.

However there isn't much news coming out of the Mercedes camp, so they could very likely have more up their sleeve. I think they haven't turned their PU to full power yet over the last two seasons. Their fundamental design is so solid, that the only thing I could see that might hurt them is if the need to up the power output to stay ahead of the other manufacturers hurts their reliability.

I also hope the USGP stays on the calender this year. 3 of the 4 races held there have been very good. It seems like when F1 comes to the States the drivers really up their game and want to put on a show, or maybe the track just has a very good design that allows for some great racing.

The question of reliability with the Mercedes is very real. It was all fun and games when they were walking away from the pack, but we've seen several examples over the past two seasons of that Power Unit coming totally unglued when they were forced to push it hard.

If the Ferrari unit indeed has mustered more oomph, and if Honda really does have a handle on their unit, it could be game over for Louis and Nico.

I have big doubts about Honda. We shall see.

As always, I'll be pulling for Williams and my boy Massa. Will also have a keen eye on Haas.

Whatever this year brings, let's just hope it's competitive.

Auto Hebdo, a specialist French outlet, says the Honda engines have been very unreliable on the test bench: "According to our information, Honda is already preparing a fleet of replacement engines, as four per driver will not be enough."

So, maybe we'll see Button and Alonso at the front briefly before their engines go kablammo.

That sucks. I read the reports of a 230-240 hp boost to the engine this year, but the last thing they need is to be LESS reliable than last year.

Totally agree. I would like to see a season where it wasn't obvious after a couple of races who was going to win the championship (driver or manufacturer)

I guess that settles the whole "I am more than a pay driver" thing he was constantly going on about.

So we can expect 1 few crash per race this year then?

Unless someone ponies up $46 million for him to try and kill other drivers
