Dig it! Suhr Badger 30 vs Holland Lil Jimi

This week I had a blues jam and two different rehearsals to try my new Holland Lil Jimi. For the blues gigs where I can have the amp turned up and volume knob everything or maybe run a boost pedal the Holland is the winner. It IS difficult to use in a lower volume setting though since it seems to be 50 watts and has no master volume (and it has a 50 watt Warehouse Reaper 50 speaker in it). For the cover gigs and lower volume stuff the Badger 30 is the winner though. The built in power scaling and master volume allow me to get usable sounds at pretty much any volume and it takes pedals a little better for the rock stuff. If I had to pick an amp for my "sound" I'm thinking the Holland would win though. I'd like to try it with a Creamback speaker at some point but there is no hurry. The reverb is nice too. :)

Nice!

Isn't the Lil Jimi supposed to do the Fender BF tone? Or something in that neighborhood?
Yeah..its got two 6l6's and a tube rectifier as well as a tank-style reverb built in. Its a much more usable version of my 1966 Bassman. Here is a little blurb I found online:
http://www.axemanrio.com/holland-amps/

The Little Jimi (last MSR $1650) is a 35W or 50W amp with 2 x 5881 or 6L6 power tubes. This amp is more of a blues amp, which sounds like Hendrix, Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. The Mini Jimi (last MSR $1365) is the same as the Little Jimi with more bite in a 1-12 inch speaker combo. The Brentwood (last MSR $2400) and Titan (last MSR $2300) amps are both 50W and 100W models in 2-12 inch speaker configurations. The Kenny Burrell is a 50W combo available in a 1-12 inch speaker combo (last MSR $2400) and a 2-10 inch speaker combo (last MSR $2300). Holland also produced the Westside Andy Harmonica amp, which is designed for harmonicas.

There was also a link to Hollands website in the "wayback machine": http://web.archive.org/web/20020203083004/www.hollandamps.com/amps.htm

The Holland Little Jimi
(The Silver Series)

The new amp line is simple: 35 watts or 50 watts. This amp runs on 6L6, has a 5v4 rec. 1-12at7s - 1 -12ax7wxt+ a 12at7 or 12axtwxt+ for the driver. Reverb, dwell and mix control. Full tone contols, 3 band eq and presence. She has a on/off and standby and a fuse on the front control panel. Weight is about 40 lbs.
We can adjust this amp to suit your needs. We can make a 4x10 or a 1x15. We are also making extension cabinets to match. We can make the amp with a multi tap output, 4-8-16 or 2-4-8, it's up to you. Note that if it is a special size, not a 2x10 or 1x12, you may have to wait more than 45 days. (Remember, every Holland Amp is hand built.)
The tone is sweet and clean up to stage volume. After that, you start to break up but the amp still stays tight and not out of control. You can get any tone, from Cream to Stevie Ray to Hendrix. You can use a Les Paul, a Strat, or Tele and just use the tone controls to dial the tone in. She can be driven hard with a ex pedal with no reverb squeal.
The amp comes with a hand-made cover as well as a hand made reverb bag. The 50 watt version comes with a 15 foot power cord. Hope you enjoy it!

Sweet!

I bought an amp that nailed my "sound," though it's hard to say that with a straight face, a few years back. Since then, I've bought several very nice amps that sound great, but none sound as good (to me) as that one.

As long as you find what you like playing through, thats what matters. :)

I had them backwards...I thought the Badger was the larger venue amp and you got the Jimi for smaller gigs...:embarrassed:

Honestly thats how I thought it would work too but the Badger can get pretty quiet and still sound good. I was also thinking originally that the Holland came with 6v6's. The 6l6's are a bit louder and there is no master volume.

Another question about the picture: Why is the spotlight on the amplifier?
They have a lighting rig there that apparently just has a bunch of fixed lights on the stage. I've never played there before but I guess it just works out that way.

How big of an ordeal would it be to add a master volume to the new amp?

Is it doable?

If so, that would kick ass.
