I'm pretty sure I've played a Swan, but I really can't remember how different it is. My Loon is 24 3/4" scale.

Think of it this way. A 27" scale is going to be one fret longer than a 25.5" scale. Jim created the Swan to string up in standard tuning with greater tension and and a brighter feel for his solo jazz guitar stylings. $1000 is a good deal. The question is whether you care for the scale length or not.
