Nice turnout! I'm excited to listen to these for sure.

Since this is 'non judgmental' and all, what kind of constructive criticism is allowed? I mean, from a recording aspect, I'm sure a number of us would have ideas and comments that would serve a helpful purpose, but I don't want to spoil the spirit of the fest.

I think that everyone is up for the constructive criticism....for the newbies it would be good to be gentle, though. We all know how hard it is to hear subjective criticism on our first go around and I think technical help is appreciated but "your singing sucks" or "you shouldn't have played your own guitar" type comments probably aren't the best...not that you would do that but I'm hoping that this particular round of recordings will garner their artists some supportive and positive energy....not having it be a contest is a major part of that as well...no losers here!

You can be brutal on mine, though....I can take it!

Punchy - nice stuff. Certainly a solid bedrock track. Good playing.
Phil513 - same with you. I didn't hear anything offensive there at all. Nice flow, liked the keys.
Cfgsteak - I like this. Funny lyrics, perfect for you with your fishing obsession, and the chord selection is really good. Nice job!
Johnny N - Mighty powerful voice you have there! Good cover.
Aahzz - Is this an original? It's very good. I like the arrangement and the vocal performance is really solid. Playing is good too. Sweet.
Ronk - Tasty playing. Lots of soul appeal. Nice job.
Suhnton - Love it. This is up my alley. Again; Is this an original? I need to ask, because this (along with others here) is a really good song. Kudos to you if it's yours. Nice job all the way around.
Hobo Uncle Sam - Don't pick it like that! It'll bleed! You are my sunshine just crept in there for a moment. Good playing.
Jay Hitz - Blooze! Not my favorite style of music, but you've done it pretty well here. I really was drawn to the clean rhythm guitar. Nice!
stinkymommasboy - Very nice piece. Nice playing and with it you've set up a warm atmosphere, and I felt relaxed and content in it.
Tyoc - Sorry man - I couldn't get this to play...
Baron85 - Looks like we have a ringer..:embarrassed: I've heard this song before, I'm pretty sure. I really like this guitar riff, and I think this will be quite a good song for you when it all comes together.
Ferdinandstrat - Shredtastic! I wish I could play about 1/8th as well. Nice job.
Chihlidog - Nice use of guitar effects on that intro clean guitar. I like the distorted guitar sound an performance too. Reminded me of an action movie soundtrack or something.

Good job all. In keeping with the spirit of this thing, I won't offer any deeper critical analysis of your stuff (recording wise) unless you specifically ask for it. You should all be proud - I didn't hear anything bad in the bunch! A lot of this stuff was as good or better that what gets in the GJ songwriting contest annually!

Good show!

That's a lot of songs. I'm gonna be busy getting the HC contest up and running this morning, but I'll start getting these downloaded and listenend to later this evening. :thu:

Thanks! Yes, it is original. I would love any constructive criticism on the recording, this was my first time, but I've been bitten by the bug, more coming soon, and I want to get better....

To all - I'm going to try and listen throughout the day when I get a chance...

I know mine isn't too good, and I would welcome any advice I can get. I went into this knowing most everyone would sound much better than me, but am looking to learn everything I can, and improve for the next one.

Tamoore, I have heard some of your stuff, (and really liked it) and I know you and a lot of the people here have a lot of info that can really help me, so I'm open to whatever you guys have to say.

It's going to take me a while to listen to them all, but am looking forward to it.

Tamoore- thanks for the comment, but I have to admit the clean guitar was already part of the backing track. I just did the distorted rhythm and the 2 lead tracks.

Going to have to do these one or two at a time, because I have a lot going on today.

Punchy, sounded really good. Liked the progression, and everything sounded right on to me. Did you do the whole thing? Really liked the bass line too.

Actually was thinking I wouldn't mind using it to practice to or use as a backing track to try recording over, if you didn't mind of course. If I did ever record over it, noone would ever hear it except for maybe you guys here, with you getting full credit of course!

Will listen to the rest throughout the day as I have a chance.

I'm going to post mine in chunks as well, listening in spurts...

Punchy - great progression, good tone, I liked it.

Phil - Nice atmosphere, captured a good ambience, just porno sounding enough to be cool :)

Cfg - too much fun, loved the lyrics

Johnny - damn powerful vocal performance on a tune I've always loved.

Phil- really liked the guitar tone a lot, and good playing too. I obviously don't know much about recording or mixing yet, but to my ears, it sounded like you did a great job on that too. Sounded very well put together, and I like that style of rhythm playing a lot.

Steak-great song for you, and I like the way you reworked it. Taking a song and doing your own version of it is something I've always wished I could do a lot better. I'm not sure, but am thinking that was a Paisley song too, which would be hard to rework, even being one of his simpler songs. Liked the way you did it!

I'm loving hearing what everyone has come up with! Have some stuff to do, but will be back in a couple hours to check out a few more. I'm glad I let you guys convince me to get in on this, and am already looking forward to next time.

RonK - great tones, tasty playing, liked it a lot.

Suhnton - Loved it, very cool song.

Thanks for the comments, and be my guest to use it. The drums are midi/sample, and the "bass" is my Tele, but yeah, did everything myself. I wish I had spent more time on it. . .I like the idea of the song, but my tracking skills. . atrocious biggrin

*starts downloading songs*

I'll try to listen to a few at a time too. Huge turnout, how very cool. The few I have listened to so far are fantastic and just show how good of an idea this was.

I'm not qualified to offer any criticism but I know it is useful to get comments on your effort so I will offer my thoughts.

Punchy - Great playing. I liked the groove. I also liked the tone of your guitar.

Phil - Same thing. Your playing is very good. I was thinking while listening that it could turn into a song. Actually I was thinking I would use yours and Punchy's for a backing track to practice with. Very good.

Steak - Perfect song. I also liked what you did with the melody and arrangement. Very artistic of you. I liked it. I love Brad too. I was thinking about trying to do I'm Still A Guy sometime. Good job.

Johnny - Could you BE any more depressing? biggrin

I am loving it. I am already thinking about what I want to do next.

I will listen to a few more when I can.

Thanks Mark.
