Saw the coolest guitarist alive last night

Setzer puts on a great show. For a while we (the Mrs. and Jr) went 3-4 years in a row to his Christmas special at the Universal Amphitheatre. Every year we got treated mid show with a different backdrop and Setzer, Johnny Hutton (bass) and Bernie Dresel (Drums) would come out front and just play a 30 min set of Stray Cat tunes. What made are very one special though was that Dresel didn't play the drums that year for the trio - it was Slim Jim Phantom - What a surprise!

Kudos to you on seeing an OSSUM show :thu:

Great photos! I wasn't too far from your spot. The sound is always really good in that venue, but did you think the bass and backup singers could have been a bit higher in the mix? I did.

Yeah they played for about 20 minutes without the brass, and then brought hem back for the end of the show. It was really cool!

Free

Definitely.
I felt like I was hearing Brian's voice, amp and the trumpet and trombones directly. The rest of it felt like it was coming from behind me. Especially the bass.
I was thinking he was direct into the P.A. and I was hearing the bounce off the back wall, but he had a monster amp behind the bandstand where he was standing. So, I haven't figured out what was going on there..

Free?
Me too. We were guests of one of the Casino execs. He was supposed to be there, but had to bail at the last minute. So, he gave them to one of his managers to use or to give away.
Were you in row 5, seats 6-7 or 11-12??
'cause that would be a freaky coincidence.

We were off center a bit in the 3rd row of mezzanine(?) seats.

My mom and grandma are gamblers and they get free tickets, food, and hotel rooms to all the shows there so I get to see anything I want for free, get drunk, relax in the pool, stuff my face and then pass out.

Some recent shows I saw there were:

Elvis Costello
Frampton
Ringo
Kiss
Blue Man Group
Australian Pink Floyd
BB King

Next weekend I'm going to see the Russian Ballet perform the Nutcracker, and then Steve Miller and Tony Bennett after xmas.

Sweet! You also saw Sean Billings, the trumpet teacher at Premier who is off for the next four weeks while he tours with Brian.

Awesome!

The venue is a great place to see a show.
I live closer to Niagara - like 10 minutes - and the three and a half trip to Windsor is worth it.
Windsor does get better shows in, but even for those that also play Niagara, the atmosphere of Caesars Windsor is worth the trip.

I do like Niagara's theatre because of the small size, though. It makes it hard to get a bad seat. However, it also limits the acts that would be able to show up.

Yeah I haven't been disappointed yet. I guess the one downside is that the crowd is always older and a bit lackluster.

Great show. I must have been sleeping. I would have been there had I known about the show. I caught him at the Fox Theater for the Christmas show a few years back, and it was killer.

Brian is one of my favorite guitarists. Great photos, guys.

Everyone who likes Setzer must have this little known album in their collection:

Brian Setzer & the Nashvillains - Red Hot & Live

Striped down with the best live performance I've ever heard from him.

He's the best guitarist, no doubt about it. He's got the technique, range, tone, you name it. Plus, his rig is ultra-cool, and his taste in songs and arranging are head-and-shoulders above anybody I can think of. i'd love one of those Gretscheses.
