You're a girl after my own heart....I'm not a huge fan of slow cookers but I do have one. I'd rather 'slow cook' stove top. I do use my slow cooker from time to time when making things like chili if I'm in a rush and need something prepared for an evening. Even then,I usually take out the slow cooked goods and simmer them stove topped whilst adding ingredients to finish it off..I use a crock pot to cook the ham hocks and make the broth. I just put them in and let it cook overnight. It works well.
