The Elric of blues is dead:
“Johnny Winter, the Texas blues guitarist who added his own unique current of electricity to songs like "Highway 61 Revisited," "Johnny B. Goode" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" in the late Sixties and throughout the Seventies, died Wednesday in his hotel room in Zurich, according to his publicist. He had been on tour in Europe and most recently had played in Wiesen, Austria. Winter was 70.”

For a bluesman of his generation making to 70 is pretty damned good. He outlived the hell out of Hendrix.

Referring to Johnny as the Elric of blues in and of itself makes this worthy.

Did he ever call his "ax" Stormbringer? Did he get his soulful chops by sucking the souls out of other players? The possibilities are endless!

Rest in peace, Johnny. 70 may be good, considering, but it is too soon none the less.
