WWE Hall Of Famer George ‘The Animal’ Steele Has Passed Away At Age 79
What? Wasn't he about 79 back when he was eating turnbuckles in the 80's?
I honestly thought he was already dead.
This. I'm impressed the dude made it that long.
Bummer. He was one of my favorites.
He was great in "Ed Wood". I also recall seeing him during the mid-70s, when on Saturday mornings we used to watch wrestling in the lounge of my dorm floor in Sellery Hall at UW, and then a few years later watching with my young son.
I didn't realize he was that old
I saw George wrestle a lot. Always one of my favorites.
RIP to the guy with the hairiest back in wrestling.
He loved Miss Elizabeth.
Back in the 80s a friend's parents won a dinner in AC w/ him through a radio promo or something. They said he was super nice and actually a pretty smart fellow & had some great conversation over dinner.
Who didn't? She was a complete fox.
Wasn't he a school teacher?
He was once a high school teacher and had a Masters from Central Michigan.
Seems to have been a pretty impressive man behind the character.
Reaper 2017 needs to take a hiatus.
My Feb. Songwriting entry was planned to be a song I wrote in tribute to him for my band's upcoming Michigan-themed album (he lived and taught here). I'll try to get it up this weekend. He's always resonated with me as a fellow educator with a "secret life" in entertainment, though he clearly took it a lot farther than I have.
Our cat when I was growing up was named after George TAS
I assumed he had been eaten by his own back hair sometime in the 90s.
I worked with a who used to wrestle. He said George was a great guy. Said the same about the Iron Sheik.
