Alas, we closed that firm 6 months after that photo. The other partners were all a decade older than I, and wanted to retire. I miss that room, Crash Pad practiced in that library after hours, for many years.

Completely soundproof, heat/AC, bathroom, fridge. Pretty freaking perfect.

I want that sovtek amp!!!

Ah yes, the Tube Midget MiG 50H! That's been my go-to amp for my main band, Crash Pad, ever since I retired the Super Reverb. Right now it needs a retube I think, I need to get it to my friend who techs for me. For the time being I'll use the Sunn 200S 60W head with a stompbox, if we gig before the Sovtek is back online.

With the Sovtek, for Crash Pad it's plug and play. No pedals, with the occasional exception of a volume pedal, just dime the master and go. I usually pair it with a Risson 4x12.

But sometimes, particularly with a smaller stage (or less room in the transport vehicle) I'll use the vintage Kustom 1x15 instead.

The Sunn is a good stand-in so long as I have a stompbox (pictured here with a roots-rock band I used to be in):

And here with Smithereens-type altrock/power pop band I was in:

How would you say it compares to say, a Traynor YBA-1 or a Plexi 1987? I'm possibly in the market for an amp of that variety but I just can't lay down the scratch on the Marshall...too much damn money.

Whoah! I've said it before, and I'll say it again - nice stuff! I'm small potatoes compared to you (3 electrics [Gretsch Country Club, Gibson ES-135, Fender 60s Baja Tele] and 2 acoustics [Gibson J-35 and Taylor GS Mini Koa], and a Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket amp).

Tbh, I haven't played either the Traynor or the Marshall, but fwiw the Tube Midget is often compared to the JCM 800 and/or that early-mid Marshall master volume sound. I have a couple of the early Marshall solid states that were meant to emulate the JCM 800, and the Tube Midget is in that ballpark, slightly less "power soak" by the Sovtek, which is just a touch closer to the overdrive rather than distortion pedal end of the spectrum. A more '70's distortion than '80's, if that makes any sense.

Lookin' good Brian. I like the tuck and roll Kustom. I hope all is well with you.

Thanks, yes, I'm doing pretty well. 2016 was pretty rough, as in summer 2015 my jaw broke down and in late 2015 I had two major surgeries: to rebuild it (with a piece of hipbone and a metal plate), and then to replace the skin on my neck (which was too radiation-damaged to heal up). The second operation worked, so that the neck mostly healed, except for one spot which just wouldn't. So in late 2016 I had a third operation, and they took out the metal plate in the jaw (the hipbone has now fused to the remaining jaw, so the plate wasn't absolutely necessary), which metal had been attracting infection, and was the culprit behind the one spot that hadn't healed.

I still have one more operation to go, though. In May they will "debulk" the neck, which is currently my chest muscle,"flipped" up to replace the original neck flesh that was so radiation damaged. Hopefully then I'll be done. It's an outpatient surgery, unlike the first 3, and primarily cosmetic. This whole last year I've pretty much kept my neck covered up in public, because it's pretty gnarly to look at.

But I've managed a couple 2016 shows with Crash Pad, singing lead, as well as several more in a side band that does traditional Celtic music. So I can't complain. Every day above ground is a good day!
