Starting in March I think the airlines are required to let you carry on musical instruments if they fit in the overhead or coat closets. I'll look online and find the exact wording later today.

Not that I fly, really, but that could be interesting. I bet hardshell cases will make that difficult but a properly sized gig bag would probably work.
