Very nice phrasing! :) Some of the bursts sound Santana-esque. You know when to leave gaps too, which is very important. Dug the tone too. Nice work :)

Ok,

Had to give it a shot...nothing too fancy here...

nice site and forums Mark..

R. Chapman
(from Harmony Central)..

Like the bluesy feel this one has, again with some very nice phrasing :) A couple of the bends were slightly short of pitch, but that's just a minor thing. Very good take :)

Alright...

I took another shot...and this time I TRIED to play outside my comfort zone of the Blues/Pentatonic boxes. As you'll hear I fell right back into them. Cliched fast lick near the end and all.

I'm finding playing to this backing track very useful in that I'm forcing myself to try different things. I guess I really need to listen to something besides classic rock to help get it into my head.

Mark, I'm a huge Zeppelin fan (I guess most are..) Didn't Page play alot of things out of the ordinary as far as scales?? I love his playing...Bluesy...but always something different too.. Anyway..here's my other track.. I'm going about this now as an educational thing. Also, ignore the flub near the 24 second mark...Whoops!!! :P

thanks for this site and contest...cool...

Randy

This one was definitely better than your first one - had more attitude :) I liked the tone better too. The little burst at around the 26 second mark was fantastic.

Hey Mark!, I've had another go as well, I tried something a bit more "rock" this time whilst still keeping it Dorian..I think..

I really like Randy's take on it, quite different to mine I think...good to see the different approaches that can be taken to this type of chord change..

Excellent site, keep up the good work!

Mo

Again, definitely better than your first one. Infact, this is my fav of the 4 takes you 2 guys have posted so far :) It has a bit of everything - whammy bar, octaves, nice melodic phrasing. Tone is outstanding too. Love it! :)

Ron

Really nice mix of lead and rhythm here. Like the slides too. Has a blues guy kind of feel to it. Dug it :)

Thanks, now I can go and listen to the rest. 8)

I doubled the length...

Wow, very tasteful and with some delicious tone. Great mix of pentatonic, blues and dorian scales. Love your vibrato. Everything fits perfectly. My new favourite so far ;D

Very good choice of notes, very melodic. Simple, but very effective :)

Really dug your bends, the way you get to pitch them come down and back up again :) Nice tone too. All around, a very strong take.

Great use of the Dorian scale to begin with :) Then things take a bluesy turn. Really liked it :)

A more mellow feel than some of the other takes, but it works. Again, good stuff :)

I enjoyed each and every one of the takes, I'm off to vote now :)

Spacetrucker, thanks for your very kind comments!. the first take was a strat through a standard marshall setting on a PODXT, and the second was a PRS SE Singlecut (which is a great guitar) through the same setting. Good luck to everyone!, I've thoroughly enjoyed this, roll on the blues comp, although I suck really badly at blues..:-(

Thank you Spacetrucker for your nice comment :)

Since I consider myself still a beginner (been playing for almost 2 years now) I tried to
play something which I am able to play and sounds good with the backing track.

Thank you so much for your comments. I didn't know exactly what bends you meant so I went
back and listened to the take and I heard those bends and discovered I do them a lot, in other songs too. I guess as long as I get back up to pitch I'm safe.... :)

Your playing is different and much better, I really liked your take on December.
