Persimmon

We use to have a persimmon tree when I was a kid in Virginia. They were about the size of a golf ball when ripe and you had to wait until they fell from the tree or they were really bitter. Very tasty though when they were perfect.

Seared scallops over persimmon/carrot puree . Very tasty.
 
I've had them out of hand (I think only the Japanese version), and they were just OK. It's my understanding that they're better prepared in some way.
 
The woman in the vid speaks the truth. We eat them with a spoon. Though when we cut them in half, we cut across the equator and eat out of the resulting "bowl".
