One of my Dad's inspirations. Stan Kenton

My uncle, who is my Dad's twin brother, posted this on Facebook, calling Mr. Kenton a man before his time, and because it reminded him of how my Dad liked to play the song on his sax. Dad is gone now, and I sure enjoyed this. I definitely recognized the stylings in the earlier part of the song where he stays closer to the melody line. My Dad tended to stay there rather than move too far into jazz exploration. Anyways, enjoy.

Here is a pic of me playing some jazz voiced chords in the key of C with my Dad ripping it up over the top, back in about 2010.

I sure miss him.

Stan filled a big section of my dad's album collection. I got to see the Stan Kenton Orchestra play once when I was 12. Dad saw him play live many times. Good stuff!
