One day in Philly...what to do?

look how the juices are soaking into the bread! throw your lunch away and get one a dem. i'll be in south jersey in a few weeks...might need to make a trip to Philly just to eat.

According to Bourdain, the best philly cheesesteak is actually found at a place in Jersey.

No word on how many death threats he has received since that episode aired.

Do the big bus tour thing. It's a bunch of double decker buses that go on a route through the city and if you buy a ticket, you can hop on and off at any time. It's a great way to see the sites and experience the city

What, no love for beautiful, crime free Camden?

Stay out of Camden, unless you are going directly to the Aquarium, and then directly back across the bridge.

Yeah, the aquarium is alright. I'd rather check out a few music stores and eat Italian or a cheese steak.

Personally, I'd visit Christ Church Burial Ground to see Benjamin Franklin's grave site. I traced my ancestry to his grandfather, so he's an uncle.

That link is perfect...just the kind of stuff I was looking for. Larry Fine sign, here I come, lol. Thanks. :thu:

There's also Jon's Bar, The Birthplace of Larry Fine. I've never been inside. Probably just a tourist trap the way Cheers/Bull and Finch Pub is in Boston.

Well, if you end up at South and Third, you're pretty much close to everything (or a short taxi ride away).
Fortunately, Philly is super-easy to get around in.

I was in Philly last week (for probably my 15th or 20th time) and took the subway for the first time. I got a token from the machine and was like, "What the fuck am I supposed to do with this?"

I'm sure some of your fellow riders would be happy to tell you what to do with it. It's all love in Philly.

Oh yeah. Everyone there is super helpful. messedup0
It wasn't a big deal. But I've traveled the subways all over NYC, DC, Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, and this was the first time I'd seen a subway token. It took me a minute.

Ya missed out on the last of my smoked Blueberry Belgian double and the tapping of summer wheat if you had been in the neighborhood. Probably brewing up a chocolate porter this week so schedule a return visit in about 4 weeks.

Ha ha. Wish I could have.
Didn't even get a car this trip. It was a pretty quick 2-day in-and-out, unfortunately. I had a few hours to grab dinner downtown on wednesday with @mystixboi1, but other than that I was locked up in meetings.

Now that I'm home on the laptop, what to do with one day in the city?

This is one of the hop on/off tours. You'll get to see the city and you can jump off and do cool shit then jump back on to get to the next place, like:

Philadelphia Art Museum, Reading Terminal Market, Love Park, etc
http://www.philadelphiasightseeingtours.com/things-to-see

Tons of museums, outdoor sculpture, etc

Beer? There are some of the best beer bars in the country in this city. Monks is pretty legendary for beer and their moules and frites are worth the stop but there's lots of places to grab a beer and some food.

Skip Genos and Pats unless you want the touristy cheesesteak experience. Everyone has their local prefs but I'm not acquainted with a single person who actually eats them w/ wiz....if that's your thing cool. (Many local pizza/sandwich joints don't even have wiz for whatever it's worth)

If you're a car buff, the Simeon Foundation mueseum is a must see

Thanks for the links. I do like beer, any microbreweries worth hitting? Monk's looks pretty cool though. Seems like a lot of stuff keeps popping up on South St.

Go catch a Phillies game if they are in town. Looks like there will be plenty of seats available. Watch how NOT to play baseball.
Didn't they win a World Series just a few short years ago? How did they fall so far, so fast?
