Hot or Not: OMYAC - A Sailor's Guide to Earth

OK -- I'm a fan of Sturgill Simpson. Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is a great record.

So he wins the Grammy for Best Country Record. Good on him. So I go out and BUY the record (well, CD actually, but still, a physical piece of artist product).

1. It's not very country, exceptin' for his Merle Haggard style.
2. My first impression - utterly forgettable. Listened to it driving around yesterday. The only thing I could really tell you about the record is that there's a lot of horns on it. Or at least it seemed that way.

BEST country record? I dunno about that. At least some POS brocountry record didn't win.

After I finally gave it a chance, I liked it. I like a lot of the texture to the record. Good record. Not a superstar.

I'm going to give the new one another go today.

I love A Sailor's Guide to Earth. I'd agree that it's not a particularly country album, and it's less country than his previous one, but it's a heck of a record.
