I would sit down and eat those burgers with her. As long as they weren't beef ... turkey burgers and fries, maybe.

Moby cited “active and former CIA agents” who were “truly concerned” about Trump’s collusion with Russia. “They were like, ‘This is the Manchurian Candidate, like [Putin] has a Russian agent as the President of the United States,’” he said. “So they passed on some information to me and they said, like, ‘Look, you have more of a social media following than any of us do, can you please post some of these things just in a way that … sort of put it out there.’”

He added, “It’s really disturbing and it’s going to get quite a lot darker. Like the depths of the Trump family in business and their involvement with organized crime, sponsored terrorism, Russian oligarchs, it’s really dark. I guess we should all, like, fasten our seat belts and hold on.”

I have a friend (a 65+ year old Hispanic woman with cancer) who showed me this video, thinking it was funny:

Without cracking a smile, I told her (paraphrasing myself): That isn't even in the same fucking zipcode as funny. That's disgusting and it makes me want to puke. I've seen cops behaving like they'd think that was the funniest thing they'd ever seen, and every goddamn one of them should be thrown off the fucking force without any review. There isn't the tiniest sliver of humor in that.

After my explanation why that amounted to fucking masturbatory fascist porn, she saw the light and admitted that it was just something that some asshole conservative posted on her Facebook feed.

Sounds a little made up to me. I mean, the CIA opts to reach out to Moby. WTF???? They topple governments and eliminate regimes, so surely they have more widely accepted means to disseminate information that to leak it to Moby. He then shares NONE information other than the fact that Trump is in cahoots with Russia, something that every major newspaper OpEd has had every week for the last year, often citing actual CIA officials. The only way this makes a lick of sense is if the CIA was trying to get Moby to DJ their holiday party by pretending to tell him important stuff.

Umm, yeah . . . common knowledge. Did I say something that sounded like I didn't already know that?
Has nothing to do with all the money that pays off the Mexican government to be complicit with the cartels and not shut them down. So the US provides a market. So what? What does that have to do with a country that's completely out of control and run by criminal organizations. The US is not the country experiencing all of the executions and murder from warring cartels. What kind of government doesn't give a shit about it's own people and the terror they constantly live in?

It's not a different planet, but the world they inhabit right alongside us is a darker, bizarro-world timeline, like the Star Trek Mirror Universe. Except that the Mirror Universe people had the valid excuse that their alternate universe was actually real. Like some mentally disturbed people, the Foxians refuse to acknowledge any facts that don't agree with their own preconceived notions, so their dark alternate timeline is a fiction played out largely in their own heads.

It's not really hard to suss out; you just have to follow the money.

Prohibition was passed here in 1919 and repealed in 1933, and the unimaginably enormous (for the time) revenue from illegal liquor boosted the Mafia from a bunch of loosely associated small-time local hoodlums to a fearfully-powerful nationwide Organized Crime syndicate.

The black hole of near-unlimited wealth bent American society, stretching tendrils of corruption everywhere, buying the cooperation of hundreds of thousands of police, federal agents, prosecutors, judges, politicians, businessmen, and everyday citizens. The money generated in that short 14 year span made the Mafia into a powerhouse of crime, and finally crippling it took massive nationwide efforts by federal law enforcement over the course of 50 years.

Drug prohibition has been going on far, far longer, and the money is orders of magnitude greater. By far, the primary market for drugs in the Western Hemisphere is the US, so the vast majority of the money that these cartels generate comes from American pockets. American money has corrupted and co-opted vast swaths of the Mexican government. And the reason for it is the American War of Drugs.

We are to largely blame for South America's cartel problems, and our own homegrown drug trade.

It will a long, long time to break the back of these evil organizations. And while we still have a punitive Puritanical stick up our collective ass about drugs, we will make little progress.

Pot legalization is a good start, because if people can safely get legal weed, the demand for harder drugs falls as a natural consequence. Less demand=less money to corrupt government=safer streets and safer people.

It is long past time to drag the stick out.

    It's only logical. /spock

But assbags like Sessions want to ramp up pot interdiction in states where legalization has passed. Their recalcitrance gets people killed and ensures the further warping of North, Central and South American societies with the implacable gravity of American drug money.

you've shifted arguments and are arguing with a strawman now. I fully support pot legalization, esp at the federal level. The Mafia didn't "exist" for so many years in the eyes of the FBI because Hoover was a cross-dresser and they blackmailed him. Prohibition never had the support of a majority of Americans. Laws against pot and other drugs have had the support of a majority of Americans, way before the "War on Drugs" started. That has only shifted to a majority supporting legalization in recent years. And again, the US creating the market for weed doesn't excuse Mexico's government from complete and total corruption. They take money from the cartels. And if they didn't those cartels could have been shut down long ago. It doesn't matter what the US has done, Mexico has their own responsibility to their own people. For those of us that live close to Mexico, trips we used to take down there on a regular basis stopped somewhere in the late 90s as reports of entire families, men, women, and children being executed in their own homes became regular. And this was happening in the popular tourist areas. Do you really think Mexico should just sit back and blame the US while letting their own people be terrorized and murdered? Do you know how many murders take place a year in Juarez? You can only read articles comparing Mexico's crime problems with the American prohibition from an armchair in relatively safe country and community. Writers make all of their points by comparing things, whether they're equivalent or not. It gives readers a sense of connecting things in history. It means nothing if you live in Juarez.
