OK, I'll go there.....Ray Rice....NFL/Ravens suspension.

Pro players are required to be All-American do-gooders who tell kids to brush their teeth and stay in school. They're forced to represent guiding lights for hero worship and Wheaties. They're not allowed to enjoy porn, smack their wives around, or raise pitbulls for gaming. It reflects badly on an organization that forgets it's players after they're put out to pasture with arthritis and brain damage.

As it should be. They are paid huge sums of money for contributing to a brand. On field performance is part of that but keeping sponsors from leaving affects the bottom line more. So yeah, they should be held to a higher standard. I have a crappy local government job and would be treated exactly the same way. I have a responsibility to represent my organization in a positive way. It is my privelege to have this job, not my right. And it is most certainly a privelege to be paid several million dollars to play. Although I dont think porn is explicitly prohibited, beating your wife and abusing dogs are and should be, among other things.

I can think about 1,000 things that I could do to get fired without getting arrested or convicted. I think it's in the NFL's belated best interests to bar domestic abusers from the league.

Saints beat up running backs?
I need to call the archbishop about this...

Call the church.
Call the police.

Call the Church Police!

The thing that bothers me most about all this are people who are saying things like "and she still married him! What's the matter with her? "

The matter with her is that she is a victim of abuse, and that brings a lot of complex emotions and behaviors into the mix. It's not as black-and-white as people who say things like this make it out to be. There are 1000 reasons why abused women stay with their abusers. It doesn't make them idiots and it doesn't make them crazy. Yes, they need to leave. But you can't chastise them for staying when you have no idea what it's like. How changes in thought processes, self-worth, and distorted thinking that comes along with abuse of any kind can make what most folks would find an obvious decision to seem impossible.

TLDR..Sorry.............LOL.....

Actually,I'm a bit ashamed of myself for that...

If it's an actuall issue, then yes...I totally agree...

At the level that they are at though it could be as simple as her knowing that the less he gets, the less she gets...Let's makeup for the camera...
And down the road my people will be talking to your people...

Who knows?

Either way, it is ridiculous how it is dominating every channel I turn on. Yes, domestic abuse is bad and the NFL/Players Union cover up a lot of crap players do. But it isn't the most important thing going on right now. And the more I watched "journalists" talk about how disgusted they are, I kept wondering if anyone actually knows if this was a one time snap or is it an abusive relationship. I haven't paid enough attention to know any back story but it seems to me everyone is jumping to a conclusion that may or may not be correct. It's is definitely a bad deal either way but isn't it a lot different if it was a one time deal where she spit in his face and he snapped? Not saying he shouldnt be punished or even keep his job but there is a difference.

And now it sounds like the FBI wants to investigate whether the NFL saw the tapes before???? Why? We know Roger is a douche. Dont need the FBI to prove that.

I need coffee.

I have much contempt and anger for 99% of television news, especially network news. And the media gets a bad rep as a consequence of that.

But journalism can be absolutely admirable. Daniel Pearl, Steven Sotliff, James Foley, etc., knew the risks and went in unarmed. They believed in the work. To me, that's every bit as heroic as any firefighter or soldier ever.

An ironic footnote: Aaron Hernandez, who is facing murder charges, is not officially suspended from playing in the NFL.

Iirc in situations like that, where there is no possibility of him taking the field or entering facilities, the NFL & team sometime prefer to wait until the criminal case is adjudicated before imposing their punishment.

Not that I am stating an opinion on the Ray Rice thing particularly, but for your added consideration, may I just drop the name "Hope Solo?"
