NGD vintage 1960 Gretsch 6185

I know I just had a NGD last week but I keep running into these deals that are to good to pass up. I got this old Gretsch on the cheap because it's really in need of some TLC. Nothing really major. A fret leveling and dressing or a refret job at worst. The rest are really cosmetic issues, but that's to be expected for a 54 year old. I had to replace the tuner bushing on the G string tuner. Not a perfect match but it fit. There is a slight crack on the upper bout that has been repaired. There is some binding repair on the lower bout. There is a hole right below the tail-piece end plate that's about 5/16" diameter. some of the dot inlays are missing from the fingerboard. Some have just shrunk up in their holes. I don't think the pick-guard is original. It came with a nice Gretch hard case. Not original. The DeArmond Dynosonic PUP sounds incredible but it needs cleaned up on the outside. The pots work smooth and quiet. It actually plays and sounds pretty good. A little fret work and she's a keeper.

Not my cup of tea, but it works for you so HNGD! :thu:

By the way that frog with the umbrella thing looks evil! Where's he planning on sticking that thing? :zoinks:

Awesome find! I'd love to find something like that, especially with the Dynosonic. :thu:

Nice guitar! F.Y.I. - it is not a 1960 Gretsch, but actually a late 50s (1957 or 1958 6185 Clipper. The reason I say this is due to the fact that it has a Dynasonic pickup. Gretsch quit using them in 1958 (the Clipper was the last model they used them for).

Good to know. The SN dates it to 1960 according to the Gretsch site. Maybe pickup was switched. Or maybe the SN is wrong.
