my setting is distortion 8:40, filter around 3:20 ( almost exactly the opposite of distortion)

Right on. I love the Rat but, combined with the EL84 amps I also love, it's too much midrange. Give it a Twin Reverb and I bet it sounds huge.

I've never played with a "proper" RAT pedal, but the modeled RAT sounds I've used are always the absolute shiznitz of all modeled tones.
