NAMM 2016: Laney GHR series

I’m not sure if I understand what the Laney guy is talking about in this video. It sound’s like he’s saying that guitarists can’t get big loud power amp tones because venues won’t let them blast the amps. So Laney made some big loud amps with a great power section anyway. Am I just missing something here?

Okay, channel 2 has an extra "volume" control that cuts down the driven preamp tone hitting the output tubes allowing you to drive the preamp full and thed output tubes hot without large amounts of volume.

So it’s got a built-in $9 volume box? Is there an advantage to that over just putting in a Variac to starve the tubes with?
