My coworker was contacted by a girlfriend he had when he was 12.

I just came into work and talked to the dude. They met (5 hour drive for him, like 1 for her) went to some caverns in a state park, ate lunch and dinner, went to a movie, then they stayed the night in a hotel and he just came home yesterday. He plans on driving to her house in a couple of weeks, then driving back to where they met 40 years ago since some of the same people still live there.

He said he's really happy and "that's the woman I should have married." He was going on about how beautiful she is, and so on. She honestly does look pretty cute for 52 in her pictures, looks younger than her age.

I think the whole story is pretty nifty...though (to be cynical for a moment) I don't think the dude has dated much and he seems to throw around a lot of superlatives about someone he really doesn't know, so his expectations could eventually be disappointed. Let's be honest, someone you had as a "girlfriend" at 12 years old, you meet 40 years later and spend a day and night with them...saying "we should have got married" is probably a bit premature to say.

In any case I wish them luck.

Yeah......premature is a good way to put it. A guy who was a fiddle player in a band I was in had the same thing happen, except it was a lady he was engaged to about 25 years earlier. They were both divorced and found each other on FB. they had a couple wild weekends, got married, and then divorced inside a year. I hope he is right but he needs to slow way the heck down....

Maybe 15-17 but 12? Wow....I guess it is working for the dude.
 
I just talked to the guy on Facebook. They're getting married. She's in nursing school and graduates in December, and they're going to move somewhere together wherever she gets a job. Crazy!

Sometimes I think about looking up old flames (if I had a FB acct) but always catch myself thinking about how I'd try to explain what an ass I was then and how I'm all grown up now :rolleyes:
 
Heck, the gal I hung around from the neighborhood when I was 12, I couldn't even begin to stalk her on FB….I can't remember her name :embarrassed: :tongue:
