We know that there's at least one surgery coming up... they can't fully heal the wound in her small intestine without diverting her digestion away from the infected area. The question will be if it's a temporary or permanent diversion.

There isn't the same kind of blood flow in bone as tissue, so that's where the barrage of IV drugs comes into play over the next few weeks.
