MEADOW PARTY 2016

I have mixed feelings. I loved Bloom County back in the day, wasn't as impressed by Outland, or whatever the followup was called. I'm not sure if he still has the ability to bring it like the old days. I was not greatly impressed with what I saw yesterday.

It will be tough to live up to the expectations. Any time someone tries to resurrect a a beloved franchise, especially one that went out on top, has an uphill battle. Folks tend to look back on the original with only fond memories and forget about the duds that went along with the good.

Good luck to him. I remember enjoying the original.

For me, this is awesome. Grew up on the funny pages. My parents got me into Doonsbury, and Berkeley Breathed stole me with Loose Tails. My 11 year-old has been reading my old anthologies and asking my wife and I tons of questions about '80s politicians (including Bill the Cat...:thu:), events, and the like. Having lived through it, I've tried to put it all behind, but my son is pulling me back in.

I'll let him and those friends that haven't heard know. When I was about 11 and on a boy scout camping trip, we were reading my new Loose Tails book, and this comic almost has us peeing in our pants, we laughed for at least 30 minutes:

I think I'm more with Gary. I still have all my old Bloom County books and the comic was grounded and perfectly aligned with the 80s. Later, it seemed to get a little too fanciful.

Also, my political awareness at 45 is very different than it was at 15. In my opinion, Breathed did a good job of poking fun at the overall system without going too heavy-handed. I'm not sure the current political climate allows for that.

Outland was OK. He did a weekly "Opus" resurrection a few years ago (instant EDIT: WOW - 2003 - 2008  :( ) that was kinda...meh.

I LOVED Bloom County; more often than not it had me LOLing. Don't have high hopes for the new version, but will give it a shot.

Bloom County is one of my all time fave comics. Not sure what a resurrection would accomplish but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Some of today’s politicians are so nuts that Breathed might as well be writing their speeches.
